Vic's pov
As soon as I woke up, I started to cry. As I got up and dressed, I cried. I didn't really feel like eating, so I just left for work. When I pulled up at the station, I wiped my face and plastered on a fake smile. But when I walked into the station, the memories came flooding back. The whispered conversations, the stolen kisses, the longing glances. I found myself remembering all of our moments together here.
"Vic are you okay? You've been staring at that corner for like two minutes?" Travis asked, appearing behind me.
The corner where we had kissed when there was the black out.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, forcing myself to smile. I walked away, leaving Travis stood alone. I was trying to stay strong in front of the team, but I don't know how long I could keep it up for.
I speed-walked to my bunk and locked the door behind me. This time I didn't cry. I just sat there, staring into space. I remembered the time when he had spent the night in my bunk, and then had to sneak up in the morning.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by a knock at the door.
"Uh, Hughes, you in there? Avery's here asking for you," Ben shouted.
"Tell him I'm busy," I replied. Jackson hadn't done anything wrong, but he was the last person I wanted to see right now.
"He said he just wants to talk to you," Ben said a few moments later, and I sighed. I opened the door and stormed out, making him jump in the process. I went straight to the lobby where I assumed Jackson was, and sure enough he was stood by the front desk.
"Hey," he said, smiling when he saw me.
"What do you want?" I asked, perhaps a little too rudely.
"I just came to see you, is everything okay?" he said, putting a hand on my arm.
"Get your hand off of me!" I shouted, and he jumped back, surprised at my tone.
This was the first time I had really felt guilty for being with someone else.
"Come on, lets talk," he said.
"I don't want to talk, not to you. Just leave Jackson," I told him.
"No, not until you tell me what's wrong," he insisted.
"What part of what I just said to you not understand?! I don't want to talk to you, so just leave me the hell alone and get out!" I screamed and by now the whole team was coming to see what I was screaming about.
"I think its best if you leave now," Dean said to Jackson as he came and stood beside me.
"Right," he said, still confused at what was going on. Thankfully, a few seconds later the alarms started to go off for all vehicles. I ran to the barn and pulled on my turn outs before getting in the ladder engine with Travis.
"Hughes are you okay to work?" Maya said as she ran past towards the engine.
"Yeah why wouldn't I be," I replied but she just shrugged.
I needed to work today, I needed the distraction.
When we got to the site, there was an apartment building completely surrounded in flames.
We started to attack the fir from the outside, but then I heard a scream from inside. The building was supposed to be empty, we thought we had everyone out.
Without thinking I ran straight into the building. I heard the team screaming at me to wait, but I just carried on running.
"Seattle fire department, call out so I can find you," I shouted but I got no response.
