My first and probably my favourite. This one is spoken word but I hope you get a feel for it. Take your time while reading it and leave a comment with what you think :)

Memories

I think memories are a cruel form of torture,

Forever there to mock the present you with time long gone.

Constantly reminding you that the present moment will soon join the jumble of past actions.

Future you looks back on today with longing, having forgotten the mixed feelings and pointless questions.

Forgotten the long gone reason for laughing or crying.

Forgotten the long passed empty feeling.

Second by second your life passes through the motion of future, present and past:

The future always a blur of hope and worry,

The present blinded by doubts and emotion,

The past behind a façade your brain created for you, the pain of the moment hidden by nostalgia.

Memories indoctrinating you into a perfect pretence,

Perpetuating the feeling of longing for anything but the present.

Longing for a perfect fake past and worried about a malleable future.

Forgetting that life is passing you by just as quickly as it always has,

Only now you've paused to watch it go.

Does this make the idea of the unstoppable movement of life, more or less daunting?

Because it doesn't make it any less inevitable.

So instead of fretting over the future or revisiting the past,

Don't just live in the moment,

but realise in the moment,

the power of actions,

and thus the power in memories.
