He is either you bias or your bias wrecker.
So, I renamed the story to "It Happened In Seoul". How do you like the new title?
Translated from Korean
"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to dear Jadeline. Happy birthday to you."
December was always a month of joy and happiness for the Bangtan boys, two of their beloved members Seokjin and Taehyung were born in this month and now their most recent housemate has been added to the list of birthdays in December. Jadeline was born on the last day of the year, 31st of December, had she been born seven hours later she would have 1st of January, 2000 as her birthday. She would literally had been born into another century altogether but the 20th century pulled her in.
The members and Jadeline were tired because last night they had celebrated Taehyung's birthday, had practice and classes today and then they were cutting the cake with Jadeline at 12 tonight. The last week of December was tiring to say the least.
"Thank you so much for all this. I cannot believe you people actually got me a three tier cake. It was a joke you guys." Jadeline exclaimed at the members. She had always wondered how people cut all the three tiers at once and shared this query with the members a few weeks ago. How did the boys always outshine themselves was beyond her.
The cake had candles representing the number 20.
"Guys, I have turned Nineteen this year not Twenty." Jadeline clarified.
"But you are 1999 born." Jin stated, confused.
"Exactly. It is 2018 right now. I will turn 20 in the year 2019." Jadeline stated.
"Your Korean age is twenty. And since you are back here with us now we will stick to this one." Yoongi explained.
Jadeline sighed. She did not understand the concept of the Korean age. There was nothing wrong with it but just the fact that how could her age be counted from the time she was in the womb? Its not like she started to live her life in there. Also, according to the Korean tradition she would become a year old on New Year's day. This will make her Twenty Years old in Korea when her real age was just Nineteen.
They were gathered around their living room which was decorated by balloons and little bright lights scattering all over the walls. There were too many balloons on the ground to count. The members had asked Namjoon and Jadeline to stay back at the studio while they planned everything at home. Jadeline was not an idiot, she knew what was going on when all of a sudden she was removed from the 'Bulletproof House' group chat in the evening. Also, the members were not very good with the weird discrete looks they were passing each other when she met with them after class in the dance studio.
Jadeline was wearing a green dress which was gifted to her by Hoseok. It was a midi dress with no sleeves, thank god for heaters. She had gotten these many gifts for the first time in her life. Jin had gifted her a pink sweater. Yoongi got her a guitar. Jimin and Taehyung had pooled together and got her a new laptop. Namjoon got both of them a matching silver bracelet and Jungkook gifted her a black leather jacket similar to his because he had seen how much she liked it. And it was only a matter of time before she nicked it for herself.
Jadeline felt like a five year old opening gifts on Christmas Day. But her inner Asian was stopping her from ripping the gift wrappers off. They were too pretty to be treated that cruelly. Jungkook and Taehyung rolled their eyes on her behaviour. These impatient boys never let her be.
She thanked everyone for the wonderful presents.
"You are a good kid." Yoongi replied and patted her head lightly.
But if there was someone even happier than Jadeline, it was Namjoon. He was seeing his cousin this happy and laughing after a long time. These past few months were very difficult for her but his members were very kind and considerate. He was feeling extra blessed this year.
Everyone retired for bed late that night after a long celebration and a tiring game of monopoly. Jadeline threatened to never play board games with the boys because they cheated and also made alliances in between the game to which there was a huge uproar of denial. She just sighed and backed down because she knew no matter what she said now she would still join them for a game in the future.
Jadeline heard a light knock at her door when she was getting ready for bed. She had changed into her comfortable pyjamas and was combing her hair.
"Come in."
Jungkook entered her room with a very sly expression. He had his hands behind his back and was looking at her with sparkling big eyes. He closed her door slowly.
"I know that expression all too well now." Jadeline said, smiling.
Jungkook laughed at her response and brought his hands forward. He was holding a box which was wrapped in purple gift paper and had a Cooky sticker over it.
Jadeline immediately grabbed her gift with one hand and took his hand in another. She pulled him towards her bed and made him sit down beside her.
When she opened the box she saw a delicate gold chain with a crown pendant. The crown had a very intricate and beautiful design.
"This is beautiful, Jungkook. But you did not have to spend so much." Jadeline said.
Jungkook shook his head exasperatingly.
"I know I did not have to but I wanted to. I saw this in a shop a few days ago when I had gone with Taehyungie Hyung to buy earrings and it immediately reminded me of you." He replied.
He took the gift in his hands.
"May I?" He asked her.
She nodded shyly.
Jungkook put the chain around her neck. Jadeline kept glancing at it.
"How could something this beautiful remind you of me?" She wondered.
"You are beautiful and brave Jadeline. It is not easy to leave a life and start anew. You left your country behind and came here to live with six strangers. You are headstrong and intelligent. Of course the crown reminded me of you. How could it not? It represents all the qualities you have." He explained to her. He did not say it but the green dress she wore tonight really made her look like a princess. Maybe the whole disney deal was true?
Jadeline embraced him after his reply. His familiar scent took over her senses once again. He put his chin over her head and hugged her back. Her hair smelled like strawberries and mint. Jungkook had grown fond of the scent.
"Don't ever change, Jade." Jungkook said in English. He was trying his best to be better at the language.
"You too, Kookie." Jadeline replied.
They had not talked about anything that happened in America two weeks ago. They knew they should but they didn't. What they had now was good. It was nice and comforting. Jadeline was scared they might lose this if they went into a different direction with the kind of familiarity and relation they had.
Jadeline never had a best friend but it was nice to have one now.
