"Sharise! Ron wants another beer" I yelled over the music as I placed my hands on the bar.
"I swear, he's a fucking alcoholic" she sneered as she rolled her eyes and opened a bottle of Budweiser before slamming it onto the bar.
I smirked as I picked the bottle up and walked back over to him.
"Is that everything?" I asked as I put one hand on his chair and the other on my hip.
"Maybe I can grab your number? Take you out sometime?" He slurred as he swayed in his chair.
It wasn't even noon yet.
"Baby, hell would freeze over before I gave you my number" I giggled as I patted the shoulder of his leather jacket.
I picked up a couple of glasses and placed them on the black tray I was holding as I made my way back to the bar. I washed the glasses and wiped down the counter top before leaning back and started talking to Sharise.
"I fucking hate this place" she sighed as she filed her nails.
"I know but, what's the alternative? We take a pay cut and go work at the diner?" I smirked.
Me and Sharise have been best friends since kindergarten. We grew up two streets away from each other and we're more like sisters than friends. We know each other better than we know ourselves.
"What if we just...skipped town?" She said.
I smirked and shook my head.
"No, Vanessa, I'm serious..." she said.
"Sharise, we can't. We have no money, no car, no-" I started to ramble as she cut me off.
"I've been saving! Plus Daniel left me the keys to his car" she said with a mischievous smile on her face as she cocked her eyebrow and spun the car keys around her finger.
"Your brother's gonna be back from the navy soon. Can you imagine his face when he walks through the door and there's no Sharise and no Mustang" I scoffed as I rolled my eyes.
"Okay? So what's your point? He has more than enough money to buy a new one" he shrugged.
"Where would we even stay? Where would we even go!?" I asked.
This idea was preposterous! But it was just so Sharise. She was impulsive, irrational and just downright crazy.
"I've already thought about all this! I added both of our pay checks together and calculated how much it would cost for us to get to Hollywood, how much we could live off each day and we would have more than enough to stay in a hotel until we have enough to get a deposit on a place" she said giddily.
Her eyes always sparkled when she started to talk about something she was passionate about. I'd only really seen it when she spoke about fashion designing.
