Theo was still trying to come to terms with what he had found out about himself. It made it difficult with having so many classes with the beta, lacrosse practice, and him being at Scott's more than necessary. He even stayed for dinner and a movie one night, which made things even more difficult for the chimera.
It was nearing the end of the first week of being on the team, getting the stink eye from many different members for outplaying them and getting praised by the lesser players who were benched often as well as Scott. Scott was the most exciting for having the chimera on the team. Maybe he thought it was going to make Theo agree to being bit. Who knows.
Throughout the week, Theo had noticed the small things. When him and Liam locked eyes on more occasions than he realized, he could feel his heart jump. He couldn't control it, hoping the beta never noticed it happen. Other times, he'd catch himself staring at the beta, but never when the beta was looking at him. He would also get whatever it was that Liam got for lunch. Either because it was the only good thing or because it was natural to follow after the male. The more he thought about it, the weirder it got.
Theo had even noticed it at practice. He'd get knocked on his ass at times for looking at the beta, sometimes stopping mid sprint just to watch whatever it was he was doing. He had a high school crush on someone who absolutely hated him. Or at least someone he thought hated him.
As the night of his first game drew nearer, he found himself hanging out with the others more often. Sometimes having lunch with them without realizing it or even hanging out with them after practice at Mason's or Nolan's. He felt like he was just a small addition to their group that was easily forgettable, but the occasional smile from Nolan made him feel a little better. Wait, was Nolan gay too? That would explain a lot.
Theo chuckled to himself in his thoughts, sitting in science as he replayed the night before with all the laughing. They had played CoD and Truth or Dare. He was lucky he was convincing otherwise he'd have to have worn a pair of Liam's clothes to school today and they definitely weren't the same size.
He returned his attention to the teacher, watching as she was writing a bunch of stuff on the board. Mrs. Finch was one of them, but she wanted to keep it quiet. Theo understood that, but she was like a counselor to Scott's pack now. It was nice. Relaxing sometimes to know others were out there.
The bell had rang, meaning it was 3:30 and it was time for Theo to go to the locker room. Time to start getting prepared for his first game of the year. Standing up, Theo came almost directly face to face with a girl he had never met once. She had blonde hair and looked like she wasn't a senior.
"You're the new lacrosse player, aren't you?" the unknown female asked Theo. "Y'know, the interesting one." That's what some people called Liam and all of them. The interesting ones.
"Yeah," Theo replied bluntly. "I'm the chimera who joined the lacrosse team. What about it?"
"Do you think I can wear your other jersey tonight at the game?" she asked, giving a cheesy and forced smile.
"Normally, when people do that, it means that the two people are dating," Theo told her, talking to her as if she was completely stupid. It was starting to point to his thought being correct.
"I know," she told him as she smiled. "I've always thought it would be kinda hot to be dating someone... different." The way the last word came out sent shivers down Theo's spine. He hated it. Without another word, the chimera collected his school stuff and left. As much as he wanted to deny it, there was only one person he'd let wear his jersey. But they already had their own to wear.Theo stood in the back of the group that was in the locker room. It was nearly 7 PM, meaning the game would start soon. They were given an hour earlier to do whatever, so he thought he would do something different. He had gone and gotten a haircut, getting it shortened so that way it didn't bug him like it did at practice.
The chimera listened to the coach's speech, looking around the group for something. He didn't know that he was doing it until he was nudged lightly. Looking to his right, Nolan stood there with Liam to their right and Cory after that. "Who you looking for?" the ex-hunter asked curiously.
"No one," Theo lied quickly before looking back at coach, but he could feel Nolan's eyes resting on him. Like he knew something but didn't know exactly what he knew. This definitely made him uncomfortable, causing him to shift sideways a bit into a locker. He wasn't ready to be questioned yet. Not about that, at least.
With one last yell, Theo knew what was about to happen. "Now let's get out there and kick some ass!" coach yelled loudly, followed by a lot of cheers from the team. As they started out, Coach forced himself forward. He grabbed Liam by the front of his jersey and then Theo as well. "If I see any form of foul play that gives you the advantage, I'm benching you for the rest of the game. Keep it fair and only when absolutely necessary and only then. And I'll determine if it's necessary." He let go of them, turning and walking away.
Once coach had left, all that was left in the locker room was Liam and Theo. Before he could say anything, Liam spoke first. "I'm sorry for how I've been acting and treating you. It's wrong for me to take my anger out on you like I have and you deserve a chance." Liam turned towards Theo, looking the male directly in the eyes. The chimera looked back, feel his heart pick up pace. He wanted to just lean in. To kiss the beta right then and there, but he didn't. All he did was smile.
"It's okay," he lied, keeping his heart steady. "I deserve it after everything I've done to you guys." And just like that, before Liam could say anything or Theo could do anything that would end up with getting his nose broken again, he turned and walked out of the locker room, leaving the beta alone to his own thoughts.
