Nearly a week had passed since the incident with Monroe. Knowing she was in town now, the entire pack was on edge. Stiles and Lydia were taking online courses while Isaac had to cancel his returning flight ticket and was now crashing on the couch of the McCall's.
Malia had been planning to stay with Scott so no changes had to be made with that, but now Melissa and Chris had three more mouths to feed. After Theo was bit, Liam decided to stay over to help him out as much as possible.
Being a chimera, Theo never had to experience any of the problems that werewolves or werecoyotes or any were-thing that existed had to experience. But now that he was Scott's beta, things were much worse. His senses were always on high alert, he struggled to concentrate on school so Lydia was constantly messaging him and tutoring him when she could. But what made it worse was a full moon was coming.
It was a Thursday and the moon was on Saturday. They had a plan to take Theo to the police station and lock him in the cell there, but that's the last thing he wanted.
"I just need Liam," Theo assured Scott and Derek as they stood over him at the loft. "Look, we can come here. There's a lot of space. Liam can come with and stay, and we'll have Derek as back-up just in case things don't go as planned. He helps me."
Scott let out a light sigh. "You don't know what it's like on a full moon, Theo. It's a lot more difficult than you think to have control."
"I know, Scott. I've been around new werewolves before and have seen you guys lose it sometimes. But when I'm with Liam, things aren't hard for me. I can concentrate and I can focus. Things have been weird the last week with us because he's not exactly forward with what he wants, but he's the only reason I can sleep at night. Remember the night after I woke up? I was screaming because of nightmares. When he was there with me afterwards to help, nothing was wrong."
"You don't actually know if he helps you, Theo-" Scott started, trying to argue and hoping that Derek would back him up on his point.
"You two can stay," Derek told the new beta before turning and walking away. Scott gave him an extremely confused look but Derek spoke before he could. "I remember what it was like when my eyes changed. It takes something from you and makes it hard to keep your mind straight. At least he has an anchor when it comes to that. You don't want to feel like you have no freedom or control on a full moon. Especially your first. Liam and Theo can stay. If it makes you feel more comfortable, have someone else stay as well."
Scott couldn't form words as he turned from Derek to a smiling Theo. Happy to have what he wanted, and an actual reason to spend another night with Liam, the new beta stood up and started to leave the loft.
"I didn't say you could leave," Derek said out loud causing Theo to stop in his tracks. "You still have to stay so we can work on your actual control. You might have been a chimera, but you're only a newbie when it comes to what we know."
"I'll be fine," Theo told Derek confidently even though he had no confidence at all. He turned around, smiling and keeping his cool.
"Oh really? Show me your claws." Derek began to walk towards the beta, his head back slightly showing his power in just his stance.
"I don't need to show you anything," Theo spat nastily at the wolf as he approached. Derek stood over the beta, continuing to walk as he stared Theo down and forcing him backwards.
"Show me your claws." Derek stood above Theo, his eyes changing into their bright blue as he stared down at the beta. Even though he didn't have it anymore, he was still an alpha to many of Scott's pack.
Theo's gaze dropped as he realized the dominance of the other as he let out a sigh in defeat. "I can't. I don't know how to." His voice was low, barely audible as he felt helpless like he was.
"Exactly," Derek told him as he reached forward and grabbed Theo's wrist. Derek lifted the male's hand before pushing a spot on his wrist causing Theo's claws to automatically come out. "Feels a lot different than before, doesn't it?"
Theo never raised his head, only nodding in agreement. He hated not having control of anything. His claws would randomly come out at school or in his sleep and he couldn't do anything about it.
Derek slowly walked the other back to the couch in the center of the loft, guiding him with his hand on his wrist. Turning the male, he sat Theo down before finally letting go of his arm, sliding his fingers along the back of the beta's hand before walking over to Scott.
"He'll be fine here," Derek assured the alpha before looking back at Theo. "He's promising. I taught you and you taught Liam. Liam can teach him and, if he sticks to what he was taught, we're going to have some powerful werewolves here in Beacon Hills. Have you told him what Deaton said?"
"Not yet. I don't know how he'd take it."
"He's going to be strong. Really strong. Are you ready to deal with him if he gets loose?"
"Considering he's as strong as he used to be with werewolf strength on top of it? He's going to be an equal match to Liam, maybe even stronger." Scott looked at Theo as the beta attempted to bring his claws out on his own. "You know he never intended to do anything to make his eyes blue, right?"
"It happens to the best of us," Derek told the alpha as he flashed his own blue eyes at Scott. "Take him home. Have him come by after school tomorrow so we can get things set up. I'll have him home before you guys go to bed."
"Okay," Scott said before moving towards Theo. "Let's get going. Derek is going to help you more tomorrow after school."
"But what about practice? We have the championship next weekend and coach said if anyone misses practice, they can't play."
"Theo, we both know that we'll lose if he benches you. I'll tell him you had an emergency and couldn't make it." Scott patted the beta on the shoulder as he stood up to look back at Derek standing by a window as he watched them go. Theo felt his heart skip a beat as they locked eyes for a moment, but he was sure it was intimidation. Right?
