*•.* [chapter twenty]"YOU WERE A PRINCESS ON YOUR HOME PLANET," the Titan said, pulling at the chains that sat painfully around her wrists.
Vormir had not been a place of structure for a long time. She was no princess. She didn't respond.
"Tell me, how did you manage to coerce the Soul Stone into granting you immortality?"
"Immortality? Immortality?" She let out a harsh breath. It was the closest she could manage to a laugh. "There's no such thing. The soul stone owns my soul, and it decides if I see the next lifetime or if I see tomorrow."
"And how did you manage that?"
"I promised it an eternity of tug-of-war. I have my soul for how ever long it pleases, and then it has my soul for however long it pleases. If and when I get my soul back, I get the chance to start over." Whether she wanted to or not.
The male hummed thoughtfully. "What did it promise you?"
"Freedom."
In ways he'd never understand.

"NO MORE WANDA, seriously," Savannah laughed snatching the remote from the brunette. "We can watch Modern Family another time."
"Fine, fine," Wanda said leaning backwards, but she must've forgotten her position in the motel bed because she toppled over the side and onto the carpet.
The two erupted into a bout of giggles.
Savannah peaked over the bed, laughing harder sat the sight of Wanda's red face. A knock came at the door, and she hurriedly shushed Wanda while also burying her own laughter.
She moved toward the door, opening it slightly. Natasha stood there, newly cut (and dyed) hair almost white in the moonlight. "You two are gonna wake up the whole place with all the noise you're making."
More hushed giggles. "Sorry."
"No you're not. And you're not supposed to be drinking."
Savannah rolled her eyes. "Birthday's only come once a year, Nat."
"Yeah, so sober up because I've got a surprise," Natasha said with a shake of her head. Then she added, "For both of you. Fix your hair." The blonde left, the command to follow her in the air.
Wanda scrambled up, handing Savannah her shoes while throwing on her own pair. Savannah patted down her hair but gestured for the jumpy Wanda to go before her. A second later she followed.
They went to Natasha's room, giddy and overly excited. Wanda entered first, yelping at what was inside and rushing in. Savannah followed, pausing at the sight. In the center of the small motel room was Pietro Maximoff. He was embracing his sister tightly, a content smile on his face. And when they pulled away, his eyes went directly to her.
Something about his look felt sobering, but she knew she'd drunk enough for that to be impossible.
Savannah just stared, taking in his tousled blonde hair and casual attire. "We're going to take a walk," he announced to Natasha and Wanda. His eyes never left hers as he approached her, blue clashing with brown.
Once outside, they walked in silence. The only sound was coming from the nearby highway. Then after a moment, "I thought you'd be happy to see me."
