Fai

The dream started out on an island of some sort, I was looking around at the green life. Familiar white moso'oi flowers with their alluring scents lined a path I was following. The soft grass beneath my feet turned to moist soil when I reached a small house strategically made of bamboo and kneaded coconut husks as the roof. It looked like a nice vacation home out of a magazine, but the peaceful atmosphere was rudely interrupted by a piercing scream from inside. My feet hit the ground before I could think again, I rammed through the front door. A group of hunters were inside, with one of them on top of a girl. She struggled under the robed figure as it choked her, she slapped at its hands but to no avail. Then her eyes darted over to me is desperation.

"H-Help me. Please." She wheezed.

I tried to run over to help but my legs were frozen in place. It was a nightmare watching the life slowly fade from her eyes. "Nooooo! I can't move! What the fuck?!"

Then the Hunters made their way to me, knives unsheathed and ready to stab when I woke up with a jolt. Sweat made its way down the side of my face as I tried to take deep shaky breaths.

"It was just a dream. It was just a damn dream." Trying to convince myself was almost impossible with how it felt.

I looked over at Tai who was dead in her bed, it was still dark outside which meant it was probably the middle of the night but I couldn't go back to sleep. Pulling on the robe Fanua left on the bedside table, I decided to go on a little walk to clear my head. The house was quiet which meant no one else was awake so it was easier for me to slip out without causing any trouble.

My thoughts went back to Tai and Tagi acting like damn fools in the tent. I mean I knew they were fucking around but maaaaaaan ... to anyone walking in on it they'd think that shit was real. Poor Kookie looked pretty sad seeing it though. I wonder what they were talking about before she came to bed.

Crickets chirped loudly as I took my sweet ass time walking down the yellow path. Where was that dream at? Samoa? Why? Was it a message of some sort? From who? But most importantly, who was that girl?

"She didn't look familiar at all, but she did feel familiar." I whispered to myself, trudging up the volcano rock bridge to lean down on the arch.

Goosebumps ran up my arms remembering how real it all felt when everything happened. The grass, the soil, the house and the girl. What could it mean? Am I going fucking looney tunes?

"Hey." My head turned to find RM at the bottom of the bridge looking up at me with sleepy eyes.

I rolled mine, looking out at the vast expansion of stars and the reflection it casted over the waters. "Great. Yet another fucking issue."

"I didn't come here to stir up trouble. Just wanted to check on you after that dream." He kicked at his feet, determined not to look me in my eyes.

"Don't trip. It ain't your issue so go back to bed and forget about it." I walked down, pushing past him when he caught my sleeve.

I stopped but didn't look at him.

"Do we have to keep doing this? Ignoring each other? We're supposed to be working together to find Ariah. Why can't you let it go?" He sighed in frustration.

I yanked my hand away, pissed the fuck off. "Is that your way of apologizing? Cuz you fucking suck at it."

He pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling. "Fai, I'm trying my best to save our relationship-"

"How are you so sure there's anything left to save?" I scowled, making sure to look him dead in the eyes.

He stopped, confused. "What are you saying?"
