Gardening always made Tobias feel at peace. He loved the way he could immerse himself for hours in it, thinking about everything and nothing all at once. Whenever he felt anxious, he always knew gardening would help. He supposed it also made him feel useful; the fact that his plants relied on him, and blossomed at his touch. There was an innocent power to it.
Stretching his hand outwards, Tobias focused on the calm, relaxed emotions he was feeling, and soon enough, plants began to sprout from the ground with happy little tendrils curling towards the sun. He closed his eyes and felt warm energy trickle to his fingertips, and as he opened them again, he was greeted by a large cluster of daisies. Tobias smiled to himself and rolled up his sleeves as the hot sun radiated down on his back.
He couldn't imagine being anything else but an earth fairy. He liked being down on the ground, being simple and practical. It suited him perfectly. He thought to himself about the rest of his friends. They all suited their elements too. As he tried to imagine Morgan as a dainty little water fairy, he started to laugh to himself. But maybe that would've been best for him after all that happened to his brother.
Raising his head, he saw with surprise that Blue was wondering around the gardens where he was, about 100 meters away. Anxiety crept through his skin. Tobias only met her yesterday, but already she made him so nervous. There was something about her sincere, calm presence that drew him to her. He remembered the way he had felt when he carried her back to her dorm...she just looked so peaceful and innocent cradled in his arms that he almost didn't want to let her go. Tobias remembered tucking her into her bed, pulling the covers over her slender body and watching her for a little while. Until he felt creepy and left. Morgan had insisted to take her back, but he was drunk out of his head, and Tobias didn't trust him flying her up four storeys - so the group asked him to help.
She looked up and noticed he was watching her. Shit, she was coming over. The brunette seemed to glide when she walked, moving fluidly and gracefully in a way he could only compare to a softly flowing stream.
"Hey Tobias I've just come from the library, I won't lie it's kind of creepy." She said when she reached him, looking flustered. Quickly, he brushed his soiled hands on his brown corduroy trousers. She watched the hurried action with a small smile.
"Hey." He replied. He was screaming internally.
Her smile widened when she saw the daisies by his feet and she knelt down to look at them more closely. Tobias crouched down beside her too so he was on her level.
"Did you grow these?"
He was used to people making fun of him, especially for his love of growing flowers, but as he met her warm blue gaze, he knew that wasn't her intention at all. Tobias felt himself relax; it was easy for him to talk about nature.
"Watch this." He said, flicking his finger and creating a ring of daisies around her. She squealed quietly with delight, her face bright with captivation, and clapped her hands.
" Do more!" Blue giggled.
Tobias had an idea. His nerves completely evaporating as he realised there had been nothing to be nervous about being with a girl who smiled so easily and freely; she was much less guarded than the others. Closing his eyes to concentrate, he summoned hundreds of bluebells to sprout out of the ground around them, adorning the grass in a carpet of delicate blue. Her eyes widened and she gasped. "Bluebells for a blue belle." He teased and she laughed too at his corny joke, flashing a playful grin.
"I love them Tobias." His heart warmed at her using his name.
She sat down amongst them and all he could think of was how her eyes matched the flowers. As she occupied herself with gaping at his simple creations, he occupied himself with watching her. Her brown hair tumbled down her narrow shoulders like a silken waterfall, and when she smiled, her nose, with it's splash of freckles, crinkled playfully. He couldn't keep his eyes off her, and when she looked up, she caught his gaze, holding the eye contact shyly.
