Dhak Dhak Dhak Dhak Dhak Dhak...
Both of them froze, suddenly, and the world around them faded to a quiet, insignificant hush.
Everything about this moment was more than Khushi had ever even imagined. She had never thought that she would fall into his arms again for the first time. Khushi felt warm, safe, and at peace in his arms. Almost as if she was coming home.
Arnav was originally startled by the situation. Something so dramatic had never occurred at his office, at least not when he was there. All of those thoughts became insignificant the second his gaze locked with hers. He felt a faint stirring of familiarity and longing by her presence. The likes of which he hadn't ever felt in anyone's presence, not even his Di's. It felt fundamentally right to have her encased in his arms. That thought scared him, enough to jostle him out of their ogling of one another.
Arnav quickly released her from his hold and stepped away from her comforting presence. "AMAN!" shouted Arnav with a voice loud enough to reach the second floor and scare away the gathered crowd. "Remove this woman out of my office this INSTANT!"
"But I..." Khushi tried to protest but, she was interrupted by another voice.
"Arnav? Kya hua? (Arnav? What happened?)" asked Anjali from the second floor. She started moving towards the stairs before Khushi had a chance to register her interruption. "Rukho, meh nicheh aati hi. (Wait, I'm just going to come downstairs.)" she stated as she got to the stairs.
"ARRE RUKHIYE! Waha pani gira hua hai! Ap gir jayengi! (WAIT! There's some water spilled over there! You will fall!)" screamed Khushi, stopping Anjali in her tracks.
This also resulted in Arnav flipping out about Anjali almost having gotten hurt. He yelled for the janitor to immediately clean up the mess or face being fired. The janitor quickly complied with his wishes and Anjali was safely brought down to the main floor.
"Ji, shukriya! Apne humari madat ki warna hum gir jaate. Hum Anjali hai, Chott-sorry Arnav ki Di.(Thank you! I would've fallen if you hadn't helped me. I'm Anjali, Chott-sorry Arnav's older sister.)" said Anjali, approaching Khushi.
"Arre, koi baat nahi! Yeh toh humara farz tha! Waise bhi yeh laad governor neh hame girne se nahi bachaya hota toh hum apko kaise bachate? (Oh, don't worry about it! It was my duty to help you! And, if this laad governor hadn't helped me, how would I have helped you?)" Khushi explained, gesturing towards Arnav.
"Wha... LAAD GOVERNOR!" shouted Arnav, enraged at such a moniker for him. "How dare you?! Ms... Ms...?"
"Humara nam Khushi Kumari Gupta hai. Aur ap bahaut hi akudu kisam ke insan lagte hai, isi liye ap humari liye laad governor hai. (My name is Khushi Kumari Gupta. And, you seem like a very arrogant person so, you're laad governor for me.)"
"Wha... AKUDU?! How dare you, Ms. Gupta?! Tum janti ho—? (Wha... ARROGANT?! How dare you, Ms. Gupta?! Do you know—?)"
Anjali interrupted his rant before he could start yelling louder. "Chotte, shant ho jawo. Yeh mat bhulo, Khushiji ne humme girne se bachaya. (Calm down Chotte. Don't forget she just saved me from falling down the stairs.)""Di, I don't want her in my office!" stated Arnav, firmly. He turned back to address Khushi. "You're here for the design interview right? You will never get hired! You get that?! I, ASR, will never hire you! Now get out!"
"Apko inti badi office ke malik hote hueh, bhaavnaoh me behehke ehsa koi nairne nahi lehna chahiye. (As the boss of such a huge office, you really shouldn't make such decisions like this by getting caught up in your emotions.)" said Khushi, rather dryly.
Arnav sputtered at that statement, offended at thought of his emotions ruling his decisions. "Kya?! Bhaavnaoh?!! Mein apne emotions ko apne decisions par kabhi nahi affect karne detha ho! (What?! Emotions?! I never let my emotions affect my decisions!)"
"Toh aapko mere yaha kam karne se koi etaraaz nahi hoga na? (So, that means you won't have any issues with my working here.)" asked Khushi, diplomatically.
"Theek hai! I won't affect the decision to hire you but, don't think I'll go easy on you if you do get hired! (Okay fine! I won't affect the decision to hire you but, don't think I'll go easy on you if you do get hired!)" snapped Arnav, confused and frustrated at this situation. He stormed off to the second floor leaving his Di and Khushi behind.
"Arre Chotte... (Oh Chotte...)" Anjali called out after him but, Arnav was too angry to notice her. Anjali awkwardly turned around to apologize for her brother's behaviour. "Khushiji aap please bura mut manye. Chotte ehse hi hai. Woh koi maazak ko bardaash nahi kar sakta. Par lagta hai ki agar aap yaha kam karegi toh woh maazak karna bhi sik jayehnge. Aap chinta maat kijiyeh, aapki naukri keh baare me yaha koi bhi ehsa fesla nahi hoga jo uchit nahi hai. Mera bhai gussa zaaroor karta hai, par apne zaaban se peeche nahi hateh ga. (Please don't take offence, Khushiji. Arnav's personality is like this. He really doesn't take jokes well. However, it seems like with your presence at this office, he'll probably learn to joke around. Don't worry about being selected for the job. I'll make sure they are fair about choosing the right person for the job and this incident won't influence that decision. My brother sure does anger easily but he won't go back on his promises.)"
Anjali was just about bid her goodbye when she noticed Khushi's Devi Maiya pendant. "Arre aap Devi Maiya ki bhakt hai kya? (Do you pray to Devi Maiya?)"
"Devi Maiya ki bhakt?! (Do I pray to Devi Maiya?)" repeated Khushi, giggling, "Devi Maiya toh meri SAS hai, SAS! (Devi Maiya is my SAS!)"
"Kya?! Saas?! (What?! Mother-in-law?)" asked Anjali, bewildered.
"Haan. Aur nahi toh kya. SAS. Sabse Ahchi Saheli. (Yes. Of course. SAS. My dearest friend.)"
"Khushiji aap bhi na. Acha chodyeh. Agar aap Devi Maiya ki bhakt hai toh aap humare saath bade mandir mein aayegi aarti keh liye? Shukrawar ko? Subah ki nau baje? (Oh Khushiji. Never mind, forget all of that. I wanted to ask you to join me for Devi Maiya's prayer at the big mandir since you pray to her as well. It's on Friday at nine in the morning. Will you come?)"
"Arre hum toh Buaji aur Jiji ko bhi saath leke ayehnge. Aap chint— (I'll even bring Buaji and Jiji with me. Don't worr—"
"DI!! Aap kaha ho?! (Di!! Where are you?!)" interrupted Arnav, shouting from the second floor. Anjali quickly bid Khushi goodbye and left to calm her brother down.
Khushi didn't waste any time leaving once Anjali had left. She only stopped by to say goodbye to Misha and glare at Pam and Sim on her way out of the office. The mausam is definitely suhana...

Later on in the day, Arnav sat in his office going over budget reports from his winter collection. His mind kept drifting to that crazy girl who had dared to joke around with him. Arnav had never felt as vulnerable as he did once staring into her eyes for the first time. He hated it. He hated that he couldn't bear to never see her again. That was the reason why he hadn't sabotaged the selection process, yet. She was going to change his life, he just knew it. Damn it!
