Chapter 6: Khushi Bitya

Anjali entered the main hall in a hurry, quickly spotted her targets, and descended on them, eager to share her news. "Nani! Nani! Nani! Mein ek khush khabri laayi hu! (Nani! Nani! Nani! I have some good news! {Usually refers to pregnancy})"

Mami and Nani who were having a cup of chai, choked on their drinks, shocked. "Hello Hi Bye Bye! Anjali! Tum ehse kaise kar sakti ho? (Hello Hi Bye Bye! {Mami's catchphrase usually meaning she's shocked or surprised by something} Anjali! How can you do this?)" exclaimed Mami, clearly thinking about Anjali's wedding which is more than half a year away.

Nani interrupted her with her own questions. "Anjali Bitya?! Khush khabri? Ehse kais- (Anjali?! Good News? How can yo-)"

"Ohfo Nani! Aap bhi na. Main apni nahi, Chotte ki baat kar rahi hu. (OMG Nani! I'm talking about Arnav, not myself.)"

"Kya?!! Chotte ka bacha??!!! (What?!! Arnav's going to have a baby??!!!)" shouted Mami and Nani, simultaneously.

"What?! Nahi! Aap dono please pele meri puri baat sunye. Mujhe Chotte keh liye ek ehsi ladki mili hai, jo uske liye perfect hai! Woh ladki ka naam Khushi hai aur woh mujhe aaj office main mili thi. Usne Chotte ka gussa bhi sehan karliyah aur upni baat bhi manvali. Meh toh dekthi hi rehgayi. Nani, hum dono ne Devi Maiya ke bade mandhir meh milne ka plan banaya hai, Shukrawar ko nau baje. Aap dono mere saath aayengi na? (What?! No! Can the both of you please let me finish what I have to say? I have found the perfect girl for Arnav. I met her today at the office and her name is Khushi. She was able to take Arnav's anger and make him listen to her point of view. I was just speechless at the way she was able to handle the situation. Nani, we have decided to meet at nine in the morning at Devi Maiya's temple on Friday. Will the both of you come with me?)" pleaded Anjali.

  "Woh Devi Maiya ki bhakt hai? (Is she a devoted follower of Devi Maiya?)" asked Nani.

  "Haan, Nani. (Yes, Nani.)"

  "Woh bohaut bootiful hai ka? (Is she beautiful?)"

  "Haan, Mami. (Yes, Mami.)"

  "Woh Chotte ko satathi hai aur uska gussa bhi sambhal thi bi hai? (Is Arnav bothered by her presence and is she able to control his anger?)"

  "Bilkul, Nani! (Yes, Nani!)" replied Anjali, excitedly.

  "Toh iss me poochne ki baat ka hai? Anjali Bitya, Manorama. Hume shukrawar ko Chotte ki liye ek ladki dekhne jaana hai. Saari taiyari kar lena. (Then why are you asking me? Anjali, Manorama. We'll be going to meet this girl on Friday. Make sure everything ready for this visit.)" said Nani, before quickly finishing her cup of chai and leaving for her room with Lakshmi the goat, her beloved pet.

Mami quietly approached Anjali without her noticing, "Hello Hi Bye Bye! Anjali Bitya, tumko lagat hai ki woh Kushee ko humara makeupwa acha lagega? Woh Arnab ke saath jobwa kareki nahi? Deziner hai ka? Hum toh humari nu deziner saari hi wear karenge. (Hello Hi Bye Bye! Anjali, do you think Khushi will like my makeup? Does she not work with Arnav? Is she a Designer? If so, I'm going to wear my new designer saari.)"

"Mami, aap ko jo theek lage. Khushi waha job interview keh liye aayi thi, iss liye mujhe uske baare main bahout kuch nahi pata. Waise bhi hum sub usko shukrawar ko hi milne wale hai. Tab pata chaljayega. (That's fine, Mami. Khushi was there for a job interview, which is why I didn't have enough time to ask many questions. Anyways, we'll be meeting her on Friday. So, we'll know then.)"
