There was a flicker of light before the last of the burning embers extinguished leaving a veil of smoke that overwhelmed her. Her eyes burned at the thoughts racing through her mind. She had put her faith in the strength of their love on the line and lost heartbreakingly. She knew that neither of them was at fault for this situation. And that perhaps, was worse because she could not hate nor blame him for leaving her at their mandap.

A wave of grief washed over her at losing the chance of finally being with him, the chance of being a part of his family, and marrying him

A wave of grief washed over her at losing the chance of finally being with him, the chance of being a part of his family, and marrying him. She could hear the taunts and gossip from the long-departed guests echoing through her mind repeatedly.
"Looks like the mother and daughter aren't so different after all. I mean how low can you be to trap both Raizada Jamai's in your evil intentions and try to get away with it!"
"Anjali's life is already ruined. Arnav should be lucky he found out about this middle-class girl's truth before he tied the knot."
"She was probably after his money. Why else would she go after him and his Jiju? And to think, Arnav almost married her...disgusting!"
"If she just left, it would be for the best. At least she wouldn't ruin Akash and Payal's life as well."

Despite all the jeers and insults, she had defiantly protected her mother from the accusations and trusted her love for Arnavji to resolve this issue. She had waited for him by the burning pyre in their wedding mandap.

As the everlasting scent of smoke, marigolds, and roses nauseated her, she came to realize that love just wasn't enough this time

As the everlasting scent of smoke, marigolds, and roses nauseated her, she came to realize that love just wasn't enough this time. Even if he came back to her, she could never make up for the mistakes of her and her mother's past. Not when he had lost his mother, father, and unborn niece because of them. She had no right to wear his mother's precious bangles, not when she had ruined his sister's life.

She heard loud gasps of shock echo throughout the nearly empty room and looked up to find an unconscious Anjali surrounded by the Raizadas and her sobbing mother collapsed on the floor with Payal and Buaji. As she sat frozen in front of the pyre, unable to breathe, she noticed her father in his wheelchair staring back at her devastated.

Suddenly, the walls started closing in on her and she knew she needed to escape from this never-ending fragrance of smoke and flowers

Suddenly, the walls started closing in on her and she knew she needed to escape from this never-ending fragrance of smoke and flowers. She hastily took off out of the room, lost within the commotion of panic and grief, unnoticed by none other than her paralyzed father.

As she ran along the dark streets of Delhi in her wedding Joda, all she could think about was,
"If only, I had told him about Shyam sooner. If only, I had the chance to prove myself more worthy of his love and trust once again. If I could just get a second chance to change my mistakes. If I could just do this properly, all over again."

While she was preoccupied with these thoughts, she didn't notice the truck coming towards her from across the bridge. In a blink of a second, she was hit at full speed and flung over the edge of the railing into the dark river. As the pain finally overwhelmed her senses, all she wished for was a second chance at life, with her Arnavji.
