"Why couldn't Merlin and Freya pick a better time to ring us?" Kenna groaned, watching the way the sword around her neck glowed faintly underneath her tee-shirt. Brushing her curly, brown hair over her shoulders, she slammed the Algebra II textbook that laid open in front of her shut, enough force that she could envision that if it had been her sword and a dummy, it would have been sliced in half, and stood up. She subconsciously pulled out the necklace from under her shirt and watched it give off a faint, pulsing turquoise light. She played with the chain as she moved, knowing all too well that if she pulled it off the chain, it would turn into a full-length sword that she had gotten really good at using over the past three years. Apparently, it was needed once again.

Kenna raced up the stairs and to her bedroom, plugging her phone into the charger by her bed as she moved. She quickly threw off her jeans and switched them out for shorts despite the weather already starting to change to fall. Kenna flew back down the stairs, yanking her jacket off the coat rack and passing by her mother and older brother without a word as she burst through the door to the outdoors. Kenna wasn't quite sure how this magic thing worked, considering she had no magic in her blood herself, but she knew there had to be a better way to do this. It would be way more convenient if she didn't have to race around to find a place to hide her valuables, nor would she have to change every time they were transported to Camelot, lest she suffer the consequences of letting her things get wet.

Jumping into the lake with a glowing sword around her neck wasn't Kenna's idea of practicality, but that could have just been because she was sick of having to change the second she set foot into Camelot. Perhaps the smartest thing to do would have been to find a way to find a solution to carrying clothes that would get wet or bring a swimsuit, but Kenna had never been one for logic at the moment.

Though, Kenna would say that it was nice to actually know what the sword meant when it was glowing. When Freya had first given them the swords, all the way towards the beginning of Freshman year, she had left them with no explanations before completely vanishing back to Camelot. Between the glowing, horrific nightmares, and finally getting sucked into a vortex at the lake, the whole experience had been more than enough to convince Kenna that she had been on drugs.

And Kenna didn't even do drugs.

"I definitely think that we need some sort of schedule here because you, Merlin, are Mr. Inconvenient," Kenna groaned as she arrived at the lake. She glanced around herself, lucky that she only lived a block away from that portal that made her and the other Knights the world's first-ever modern time-travelers. However, living only a block away meant that she typically got here before anyone else and the twisting pit in her stomach made it hard for Kenna to even think about jumping in alone right now. Catching Sadie making her way over from out of the corner of her eye, Kenna breathed a sigh of relief and waved her over, almost missing Jude running over as well from their own little corner of the neighborhood.

"This better be way more important than my calculus homework because I swear to God if I turn in another late assignment over Merlin's antics-" Sadie started, stopping next to Kenna by the edge of the lake. Sadie's purple hair added white highlights under the light of the bright sun as she pulled it back into a tight bun on the top of her head, unwilling to be bothered by the inevitable lake bath she was about to take. If they didn't choose to go, then perhaps the lake would make that choice for them.

"Okay, well, first of all, anything is definitely more important than your calculus homework because the fact that you actively chose to take extra math is disgusting," Kenna chuckled, crossing her arms over her chest as Jude stopped next to the two girls. "You completely agree with me, right, Jude?"

"Agree to what?" Jude asked, tilting his head to the side. Kenna chuckled quietly, unable to help herself.

"Right, Jude?" Kenna repeated, a smirk tugging on her lips.
