The fact that they had been following the map made as much sense as it could. But the sudden appearance of the room did not. Now, Hudson wasn't expecting to be following a map through what was supposed to be the most complex and confusing maze in all of mythology and he wasn't even sure how Koa had managed to get a map in the first place. But since Koa seemed just as confused by the room as the rest of the group, Hudson knew something was definitely wrong.
"You had to have made a wrong turn," Sadie insisted, pushing forward through the group to stand next to Hudson and Koa. They had ended up next to each other a lot recently and Hudson had a small feeling that they had their status as the group leader to thank for that. "You had to have. It doesn't make sense."
"No, this is definitely right," Koa replied, shaking her head. She pointed to the map, tracing their route herself as if to double-check. "We started here, turned here, here, and here. We passed through the right room at the right time and continued to follow the path up until here. We didn't deviate at all."
"So you're saying the room just appeared here then?" Hudson asked, grabbing a hold of the map with his right hand to study it. Koa opened her mouth to respond but Zach shrugged his shoulders and spoke up first.
"It's the Labyrinth. It's not supposed to be predictable," The brunette interjected, stopping whatever Koa was going to say before she could even start. "We're probably just going to have to go through it and continue on with the quest. We don't have much of a choice."
"Gods, I'm a real bitch," Koa scoffed, rolling her eyes as though she just realized how she spoke for the first time. "But yeah, Zach's probably right. It really wants us to go through her for some reason."
"Okay, but it's not on the map," Hudson pointed out, vaguely gesturing back to his fellow Knights whom he had dragged into this world in the first place all for the sake of a TikTok. Whose fates he would blame himself if anything bad were to happen. "And if it's a trap or an attempt to get us killed, I don't want any part of it. I will not be responsible for leading my friends to their deaths."
"Yeah, Huds?" Kenna called from the back of the group where she had been chatting with Jude and Campbell. "I don't think we have much choice." Turning around, Hudson found that the tunnels had shifted, leaving their only exits to be the way they had come or through the mysterious room. Hudson groaned, his hands tightening into tight fists, and he thought about what a nice shape his fists would make in the dirt walls instead of actually acting on those impulses.
"So then we just have to go through it," Zale replied, shrugging and nodding his head. "Really, it's chill. We can have Wren, Koa, and Nesrin go first. You Knights can go next. Then Zach, Luna, and I will bring up the back. We'll be ready for an attack no matter what happens and we'll still be on the right track."
With Zale as her interpreter, Luna spoke up next. "If we're going to get attacked, we would have been attacked already. Right? So it's probably just going to switch our powers back or something like that."
"Luna's probably right," Grant replied with a shrug. "I mean, aren't we close to Olympus? It'd make sense." Koa looked down at her map again with a sigh before nodding.
"I guess that's what gets me. This should have been a straight shot to Olympus. We shouldn't have come across any room at all. It could be that since we took the shortcut here," Koa pointed out the route on her map, the one that contained the previous room they had passed through. "Even though we weren't meant to, the maze had decided to punish us for it by confusing us."
"Hang on a second. Why were we not supposed to take that path?" Kenna frowned, a confused expression dancing over her face.
"Yeah, hang on a minute. That doesn't make any sense. Why would you take us down a shortcut that you knew couldn't be safe?" Jude questioned, a dark look starting to overtake his features. Koa sighed, rolling her eyes slightly, before turning around to address the rest of the group as well.
