Chapter 17

(Morning)
Kobe and Max both sat up and yawned while stretching their legs. They looked to see that Fiona was still awake, plucking petals from a sunflower. They heard her mutter to herself on whether she should tell Shrek the truth about herself.

" Actually you should tell him." Kobe suggested looking up at Fiona.

" Okay. Hear it goes." Fiona responded.
The three of them ran to the door and went outside.

" Shrek! There's something I want..." Fiona didn't have time to finish her sentence as she and Shrek's pets saw the sun rising and as the sun crested, Fiona turned human again. They looked back at the sun to see Shrek stomping towards them. Kobe's heart dropped. She and Max can tell he was pissed off about something. Fiona walked over to the angry ogre.

" Shrek. Are you alright?" Fiona asked in confusion.

" Perfect. Never been better." Shrek responded sarcastically as he stomped over to sit down. Kobe slowly took a step back while Max hid inside of Kobe's shirt.

" There's something I have to tell you." Fiona tried to tell him.

" You don't have to tell me anything Princess. I've heard enough last night." Shrek said in anger not letting her finish.

" You heard what I said?" Fiona asked him.

" Every word." Shrek responded in anger.

" I thought you'd understand." Fiona said confused.

" Oh I understand. Like you said, ' Who could ever love a hideous creature?'." Shrek responded as his two pets looked at him with 'ouch' looks on their faces. Why would Shrek say stuff like that to Fiona when he's ugly himself? They came to the realization that he thought the conversation was about HIM.

" But I thought that didn't matter to you." Fiona said as she didn't understand why Shrek would say such a thing.

" Yeah? Well, it does." Shrek responded still angry. Fiona looked at him in shock. All of a sudden, Shrek and his pets looked behind Fiona to see Farquaad and his men approach them.

" Ah, right on time. Princess, I brought you a little something." Shrek told her.
Farquaad looked regal sitting up on his horse. Donkey woke up to see Soldiers march by him.

" What'd I miss? What'd I miss?" Donkey mumbled.

" Princess Fiona?" Farquaad asked.

" As promised. Now hand it over." Shrek ordered.

" Very well ogre. The deed to your swamp cleared out as agreed. Take it and go before I change my mind." Farquaad said as Shrek snatched the piece of paper out of his hand.

" Forgive me, Princess, for startling you, but you startled me, for I have never seen a such a radiant beauty. I'm Lord Farquaad." Farquaad introduced himself.

" Lord Farquaad? Oh, no, no. Forgive me, my lord, for I was just saying a short farewell." Fiona said.

" Oh, that is so sweet. You don't have to waste good manners on the ogre. It's not like it has feelings." Farquaad said glaring back at Shrek. Kobe and Max felt really bad for their owner when they heard that.

" No, you're right. It doesn't" Fiona said  agreeing with Farquaad. Donkey, Kobe, and Max watched this exchange.

" Princess Fiona, beautiful, fair, flawless Fiona. I ask your hand in marriage. Will you be the perfect bride for the perfect groom?" Farquaad asked her.

" Lord Farquaad, I accept. Nothing would make..." Fiona got cut off by Farquaad.

" Excellent! I'll start the plans, for tomorrow we wed." Farquaad interrupted.

" No! I mean, why wait? Let's get married today before the sun sets." Fiona suggested.

" Oh anxious are you? You're right. The sooner the better. There's so much to do! There's the caterer, the cake, the band, the guest list. Captain, round up some guests!" Farquaad said as a guard put Fiona on the back of a horse.

" Fare-thee-well, ogre." Fiona said as she waved goodbye to Shrek. Farquaad's party began to head back to DuLoc. Donkey, Kobe, and Max watched them go before seeing Shrek walk away angrily.

" Shrek, what are you doing? You're letting her get away!" Donkey told him. Kobe and Max walked slowly towards Shrek.

" Yeah. So what?" Shrek asked not even caring. Donkey ran up to him while Kobe and Max followed Shrek scared.

" Shrek, there's something about her that you don't know. Look, we talked to her last night, She's..." Donkey got cut off by Shrek.

" I know you guys talked to her last night. You're great pals, aren't ya? If you four are such good friends, why didn't you three follow HER home?!" Shrek snapped before walking away. Kobe and Max looked at him in shock when he included them in this mess.

" Shrek, I wanna go with you." Donkey said sadly. Kobe had tears in her eyes.

" I told ya, didn't I? You're not coming home with me or my pets. My pets and I live alone! My swamp! Their swamp! Nobody else! Understand? Nobody! Especially useless, pathetic, annoying talking Donkeys!" Shrek yelled.

" But I thought..." Donkey said but got cut off by Shrek again.

" Yeah. You know what? You thought wrong? Come on Kobe! Come on Max! We're leaving!" Shrek yelled to his pets as Kobe and Max started following him leaving Donkey alone. They both looked behind to see the sad Donkey sitting there with sadness before he walked away.

Kobe stopped dead in her tracks. Shrek stopped to look behind him and saw that Kobe and Max were just standing there.

" Kobe? Max?" Shrek asked them. They didn't answer though. They looked back at Donkey then at Shrek then back at Donkey again. Everything was pure silent for moment. Kobe finally broke the silence as she looked at Shrek with a sad look.

" I'm sorry." She said sadly before she and Max turned to follow Donkey.

" Donkey! Wait!" The cat yelled out as she and Max ran after him. Shrek was just shocked to see his two pets run away from him like that.

" You know what? Go after him, I don't even care." He muttered as he saw them running and didn't see them anymore.
