CHAPTER 9

Betty

I woke up the next morning with a pair of arms wrapped tightly around my torso. My eyes fluttered open and were blessed with the sight of a sleeping Jughead, his unruly curls splayed over the pillow. Moments later I was started by an alarm that seemed to be coming from his phone on the nightstand. He jolted awake and fumbled around for the snooze button on the screen before turning to me and kissing my nose. "Morning baby," he said gruffly as he seemed to be trying to get his bearings.

"You ready for school?" He could see my face fall a little at the mention of school. I do like school, but I didn't want to face Chuck and anyone else who decided that I would be a great target. "You don't have to worry baby, nobody is going to do anything. I will be there with you, no one is going to touch you." I nodded my head before giving him a smile and rolling out of bed, making my way to the bathroom. I tried to clean myself up as best as possible using only water and my hands before I heard Jug through the door "there is an extra hairbrush and toothbrush in the bottom drawer." "Thank you," I replied as I searched through the drawer to find the items. Finally looking presentable I looked at my clothes that I figured were Toni's and tried to straighten them. I left the bathroom knowing that it was the best that I could do.

"Toni should be up by now so she can give you a change of clothes, after school she is going to take you shopping so you can get everything you need." "Jug I don't have the money to do that." He looked at me with a confused face before he chuckled, "baby you aren't paying for it." I tried to protest but he just pushed me out the door towards Toni's room. "Toni," I said while knocking. A very sleepy Toni answered the door and let me in. "Sorry to bother you but Jug told me to ask you if I can borrow a change of clothes." "Of course you can, my closet is your closet." She walked me over to her closet and gave me instructions to choose a cute outfit before she left to take a shower, which admittedly, I should have done too.

I chose a dusty pink hoodie and black leggings with some white adidas, something simple. I had just finished changing when Toni came out of the bathroom and was ready to approve my outfit. She made me give her a little spin before she squealed and ran into her closet, she appeared moments later with a leather backpack which she said, "completes the look." I thanked her and told her I would see her in a couple minutes.

J - You almost ready sunshine?

His voice in my head still seemed strange to hear but it made me smile every time.

B - Ya just finished.

J - Alright, meet me in the kitchen downstairs and we can eat breakfast before we go.

I thought I recalled seeing the kitchen in passing yesterday so I made my way down trying to avoid the curious glances, I guess it is not that often they have someone just show up. I made it to the kitchen and saw Jug sitting at the counter with a plate of fruit and eggs sitting in front of him with an identical one sitting next to it. I walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek before sitting down. "Is this for me?" I asked him while eyeing the delicious plate of food. He nodded while swallowing a bite of food and kissing the top of my head as I dug in. I can't remember the last time I had breakfast.

When we finished we met Toni, Fangs, and Sweet Pea outside and got on the motorcycles, making our way to school. When we got there I could hear people talking, whispering about how Chuck had been with me at Pop's and then came in screaming. I tried my best to ignore and sandwiched myself between Jug and Toni, trying my best to be invisible. I noticed some groups just stared at us, well more like me. I tightened my grip on Jug's hand and he gave it a squeeze as we made our way to first period.
