Chapter: Nine
Stiles was closing up the shop with Lydia on a Wednesday when he noticed she was acting... off. She was cleaning up silently and wasn't talking to Stiles at all. He just figured she was tired and was ready to go home but then things just increasingly got worse. Whenever he called her name she didn't even respond and if he touched her she would jerk away and continue what she was doing before. She would stare at the wall with her lips parted and her hazel eyes wide open.
But then she started walking, he watched her movements and tilted his head in confusion when she went out the front door and walked past her car. He could feel himself begin to worry and he couldn't just stand there in the shop as she walked away completely alone at night. He ran behind the counter and out the door, he quickly caught up to Lydia but stayed close behind just to watch after her incase anything happened.
He became even more confused when she walked through the woods pushing past branches and crushing leaves below her ankle boots. After a few minutes of walking Lydia made it to a lake and then she stopped. Stiles stopped behind a tree and watched what she was doing, it looked like she was starring at something at the edge of the water.
And then... she screamed.
She screamed so loud that Stiles' only instinct was to cover his ears to shield them from the near violent wail that Lydia released from her vocal chords. And then she stopped, all that was left was sobs. He quickly ran over to her and grabbed her shoulders, she dropped to her knees and wrapped her arms around herself.
"It h-happened a-again." She sobbed shakily, her lips parted and her facial features consumed with fear and confusion.
"What happened? Lydia what did yo- holy shit!"
There was a body, there was a dead body floating in the lake with it's head facedown in the water.
"I-I need my p-phone." She said quickly as she searched for her phone with her trembling hands.
"You left it, at the shop."
"I need to c-call my b-boyfriend." She wheezed out.
Boyfriend? Stiles didn't know she had one, must be someone she left behind in Virginia.
"Okay um, should we call the cops first?
"J-Jackson f-first." She said with a raspy voice
Stiles fumbled through his pockets and he grabbed his phone and unlocked it before thrusting it into Lydia's shaky hands. He watched as she dialed a number and waited for her boyfriend Jackson to pick up. The phone slipped out of her hands which were trembling way too much for her to hold it so Stiles gently took the phone and put it on speaker.
"Hello?" The voice on the other side asked in confusion.
Usually what happens when an unknown number calls.
This is not the time for snarky thoughts Stiles, get a grip.
"J-Jackson!" Lydia sobbed
"Lydia? What's wrong? What happened?" He asked sounding concerned almost immediately.
"I went i-into a f-fugue state."
