The following morning Justin entered the hospital cafeteria with a stack of files in his hands and sigh in frustration when he heard the harsh hateful words they were saying about Diane. He approaches them and dumps several files on the table before each of them. "What are these?" Mike asks. "Some of the projects that Prince asks us to oversee for the two weeks that he was going to be overseas and the others are projects he was trying to finish up and since he won't be able to attend to any of them, I was thinking that we could because these people were really counting on him." Justin finishes with a heavy sigh.
"And Karen, since you're still overseeing the feeding program for the homeless, you'll need these." He said handing her another file. "Don't forget to keep all receipts from the deliveries and any additional purchases." He said making a note on his writing pad. "And who made you the boss?" Marlon asks with a nasty chuckle.
"Prince always finishes what he starts. He had a lot of projects going and I'm just trying to make sure they all get completed and I'm not the boss, Diane is." He adds with a smile, then turns to leave. "Is people like you saying shit like that why that bitch thinks she has any power at all?" Mike sneers. "My words don't give her power Mike, Diane has Prince's power of attorney and that makes her more powerful than all of us combine." Justin states.
"How can you still be on her side after what she did to Gabriel?" Karen asks in a hostile tone. "He's in a body cast Justin, he looks like a mummy. The majority of his bones are broken, and he's on life support. How can you still defend her?" Karen scream
"Because even though she may have played a part in what happened to Prince, she wasn't the one driving that truck that hit him." Justin states. "If she hadn't done what she did at that church then he wouldn't have left his house that night. He left his house earlier than he had planned to because of her, it was because of her that he was in the path of that drunken driver, so in my opinion, what happened to him wasn't partly her fault, what happened to him was entirely her fault!" Mike shouts.
"So go ahead, be by her side for as long as you can because one way or the other I'm going to make sure Prince walks away from that bitch." Mike said grabbing his set of files and storming away from the table.
Justin was on his way to see Tyler when he saw Diane coming from one of the restrooms, she looks pale and she was clutching her stomach. "Hey, are you alright? Did the sedative I gave you made you sick?" He asks in alarm. "I'm not sure, but I feel awful." She said running back into the restroom again. When she came back out Justin grabs her hand and lead her down the passage.
"Come, you need to be checked out by a doctor, right now." He said looking around trying to find a doctor. He then spots Jason and runs towards him. "Hey, Jason." He calls. "Hey, what's up?" "I gave her a sedative to help her sleep yesterday and I think it might be making her sick, can you please examine her for me?" "Yeah, sure, follow me," Jason said walking ahead of them.
"Well?" Justin asks anxiously as soon as Jason exit the room." "Your sedative didn't make her sick, she's pregnant," Jason said. "She is?" "Yep, seven weeks along." "Shit, now? On top of everything else she is currently dealing with?" Justin sigh running his hands over his face. "Yeah, I pray he gets a chance to meet his unborn child." Jason sighs heavily." "Oh please, that's Prince we're talking about, you actually think there's only one in there?" Justin chuckle.
"Hey, you okay?" He asks when she steps from the examination room. "Yeah, just trying to process everything." She said in a soft tired tone. "I have a meeting I need to get to, will you be okay until I return?" He asks softly. She nods her head but said nothing. "Alright, just take it easy, and please, whatever they throw at you and whatever people might say, remember to remain calm and take deep breaths, okay." "Okay, thank you, Justin." She said walking towards Gabriel's room.
Diane entered the I C U and saw Tyler, Tyler's father, and three other doctors standing around her husband. They explain her husband's current condition and even though he was still in critical condition they all seem to be optimistic. They gave her some papers to sign and explain that even though there are a lot of people working on his case, they won't be able to administer any treatment without her permission.
She had his power of attorney, so every decision had to go through her, they couldn't make a move pertaining to his treatment until they consult her. This was a lot heavier than she had first imagined. She knew what she had to do, her husband was depending on her and she couldn't let him down. What happened to him was mostly her fault and now she had to do whatever it took to make things right.
She had promised him that if anything to him she would step up and make sure his work continues. Justin was doing his part and now it was time for her to do hers.
But a few minutes later all the strength and determination she had felt before drained from her as she stood next to his bed. This was the strong unstoppable man she married. The man that she loves with all her heart. The man whose child or children was now growing inside her. She thought massaging her stomach gently.
Yes, she was angry at him because she knew for a fact that he was sleeping with Karen and she was angry about the fact that he wanted to become a S D A and she was angry because he was trying to change everything she had come to know and believe in. she was also angry with herself, because of everything, she had total control over, he wasn't one of them.
No matter how hard she tried she was never able to control him. Yes, he would compromise with her on some issues, but at the end of the day, he was the type of man that did what he thought was right. When and how and where ever he wanted and that frustrated the hell out of her, but never had she ever wanted anything like this to happen to him, never.
"Has anything changed within the last hour?" his aunt asks without even a casual greeting. His aunt arrived at the hospital the morning following his accident but she has been avoiding the woman as much as possible. Diane knew the woman's cold attitude towards her was justified but it just adds to the pain and regret that was coursing through her.
Diane shakes her head no. "What about the bleeding in his brain?" His aunt asks without looking at Diane. "It's under control," Diane answers softly. The woman's cold attitude towards her felt so strange it sent a shiver down her back. She and his aunt went way back. She actually met his aunt long before she ever met him.
His aunt used to help her acquire work and after Gabriel was baptized she was the one his aunt asks to look out for him. Diane had never expected Gabriel to fall in love with her but he did and his aunt was very pleased and now because of what she did, this sweet, caring woman was extremely angry at her.
Well if she was been honest, she would've to admit that the woman's anger has been building for a while now because for months the woman has been telling her that she wasn't the same person her nephew married and she was right, his friends were right, her sisters were right, they were all right, she had changed, so much that sometimes she didn't even recognize herself.
His aunt sighs heavily as she looks down at her nephew. "I really don't want to but I have to leave. We should've been in Miami two days ago and since he can't take care of his business right now, we will have to," she said with tears in her eyes. "I'll do my best," Diane said softly.
"In order for you to do your best, you need to get up to speed with all his businesses and projects. Some you already know about but others you don't because they weren't important to you but they were important to him." his aunt took a deep shuddering breath before continuing.
"You've been acting like the boss of everyone for a while now, well congrats, because now you are and I've heard you say more than once that what my nephew does can't be that hard because he has so much time on his hands to help people, yes, he did make it look easy because he has been doing it for so long but I suggest you brace yourself because what he did on a daily basis was no easy task. I will be in touch." She finishes in a cold tone, she then bends down and kisses his fingers before walking from the room.
