While Las Vegas was named Sin City, New York was the true owner of that title. It had quickly been deemed home for thousands of demons due to the simple way of New York life. Almost everyone was on their phones and no one bothered to look at one another so who really cared if that personal trainer, or that business owner or that bouncer had horns sprouting from the tops of their heads? Then there was the loose moral code that the state had adopted, it was a whirlwind of crime, both from petty thieves and the one percent's behind the table dealings. No one cared anymore. Well, as a whole no one cared. There were still hunters who lurked around the place, delusional neough to think that they could make a difference.
And every once in a while there was someone with just a little too many morals. Someone who would boycott bars and clubs who almost entirely hired lust demons as their staff or would protest a big company when it's discovered that they have a greed demon on their board. Everyone has their faults and in the end, living here, they would have to compromise something. Their favourite auto-body shop would be ran or staffed with car demons because they knew what they were doing. They couldn't deny that harpies an other winged demons always got the best aerial shot because they didn't need to rely on a drown. They would never win an arguement on where they would be media-wise or with marine biology if it weren't for sirens who could breathe under water and survive the deeper sea's pressure where regular humans could not. It was only when the negative sides of these demons showed that they cared. Humans could be so selfish.
Fear could be warranted at times, a demon's appetite could be so much different than a human's, demons could be stronger and tended to have looser morals. But the demons of New York stayed in line and when they didn't... people didn't see those demons again. It was a cult that deemed themselves to be the "Avengers" that kept the order. There were unspoken rules in New York before they showed up and those rules are still and place and still unspoken but they really did keep the peace. The group started out as justl a genius human weapon-maker and his two demon compatriots known as Pepper and Happy. Happy was a broad man with a mop of curly hair, is horns were the colour of steel and went up a little bit and then straight back, making him reminiscent of a semi truck. His eyes were yellow and looked like headlights. He had scratchy looking facial hair, permeneantly singed black finger tips and a round form. Usually the man was dressed in suits. Pepper was a female demon and named Tony's right hand man. She was a true beauty with her golden-oranged hair that floated around her to her slim shoulders, her kind eyes that hid a calculative coldness, her thin-lips that were eternally set into a smile. She was tall and slim and had twisty baby-blue horns that went outward like a warped 'T'. Neither demon talked but from context clues given by Mr. Stark, it was believed that they were telepathic and could commincate only with him and each other in that way.
Eventually everyone else found him, or he found them. The trio, two men named Steve and Bucky, and a woman named Natasha were the first and they were intentional. They were the only three known survivors of demon-blood experimentation. At times they were close and at other times they hated each other. Out of Tony, his car demon and his demon-doll, none of them expected to find the trio in an abondaned building strewn with half-eaten dead bodies, the girl with a bullet wound in her stomach, one of the men missing an arm and the other man whispering about how he needed to help them, but who would he help first? And would they do this again, what if they go after him the next time?
Tony never learned how Bucky lost his arm but it didn't take long for gim to find out that he was the one who had shot Natasha after Steve's paranoia made him tell the dark-haired man that they shouldn't be hanging out with a cannibal because there was no way they weren't on her list. Next they met Bruce, or well, they saw him as he is now. Tony had originally met him when the two of them were in college and had been on friendly terms but neither knew the facination the other held for demons. Bruce was rather like Tony but rather than being a human with the ability to summon two demon companions, he was a human who signed a contract with a demon who could then use his body to manifest a physical form.
Clint was a hunter who had been staking out the cult, suspicious wuth their growing numbers. He had been trailing Natasha for a long time, aware that she was still technically a human but her demon-inspired cannabilistic tendencies made her a dangerous threat. One day when she left the tower by herself to scrounge up some dinner she was confronted by him. No one quite knew what happen but by the end of the day, she had returned with him all buddy buddy. The two of them were practically attatched at the hip at all times besides when it was time for her to eat. The man with the hunter code "Hawk Eye" was still weirded out by that. They all hsd code names that were given to them by the hunters. Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Black Widow. But those were the favourable names, they refused to acknowledge the stupid ones. No one called Steve "The Deranged Captain", no one called Bruce and Hulk "Dr. Jackal", Pepper pointedly refused to remember how she was named the "Strawberry Demon" and Happy nearly ran someone over when he didn't get a cool nickname. No, he was just Tony's driver.
Thor, an old Nordic demon joined the team when Loki, a Scandinavian marionette demon got into the wrong hands and he ended up liking the companionship of the cult and they liked him. They were all equally outraged when it was announced that the government was once again banning demons from the military but they were glad that it brought them to an ex-pilot harpy by the name of Sam. The last two additions to the team were a set of twins named Pietro and Wanda who they met when they had to put the duo's dad back in line. Turns out the twins weren't super attatched to the man and were upset at him for thinking he could break the rules rather than being mad at the "Avengers".
Safe to say it was a gravitational group that missed nothing. Except maybe one thing. Tony was desperately trying to find out who this "Spider" was.
