Bad Luck

Peter was exceptionally nervous about going into work. People were going to notice that Harry wasn't there. People would also notice if Wilson was absent. Sure, he had read that the bulky man was unkillable but he didn't believe in true immortality. He just had to hope for the best and pray that the rest of the staff would think that the two hard-headed individuals clashed and were off fighting somewhere. No, that excuse couldn't hold up in the long run.

Speaking of running, that was something that the brunet had to do, otherwise he would be late.

He gave Karen one last scritch and then he was off. Weaving through sidestreets and alleys, careful to avoid the areas with the heavy foot traffic. The demon had been living in New York for quite a while. Safe to say, he had picked up some things.

Like one would expect, there was no Wade and obviously no Harry when Peter entered the building. This had affected the other staff. There was a general sense of unease cloaking the main room. He even got stopped by Aunt May on his way to the backstage change-rooms.

"Have you seen Harry?" She asked. She was a sweet woman who sounded genuinely worried and that made Peter feel guilty. Guilty for what he did, only as a slight fraction but mostly guilty because he knew that he would have to lie to her. "No. Why?" The demon asked. On the inside the brunet was cringing as he worried that he may not have sounded convincing enough.

May sighed. "Well, he just hasn't shown up yet. I can't justify opening up for the night without security" The woman admitted. Peter felt bad, he knew that taking a night off was to no one's benefit. While Flash and his girlfriend would be safe, Pete knew that the rest of the staff needed the money.

"I just hoped that perhaps with all this demon nonsense that maybe you finally took him up on his offer and maybe he would have arrived with you" Aunt May's eyes were watery.

Peter knew that while he was under no illusion that Harry could be a great guy, his boss was. She thought that the now deceased man's attempts to get to Peter were charming and ofthe affects of young love. The dancer wanted to spit at that very idea. There was nothing even close to love between himself and Harry. Obsession was closer. Pete had no strands of love with anyone exept maybe if he pursued it he knew he could find one connecting him to Wa-

No that was a bad idea. The demon had decided it was a bad idea so why did his traitorous mind bring it up again and again? It could never work. It was nothing more than some Romeo and Juliet fantasy that he had concocted. And everyone knows how that turns out.

Though Pete wasn't sure that his Romeo would even think about dying with him.

"D-do you think we'll be able to start tonight?" The dancer asked, hoping to shake off any lingering romantic feelings. May frowned. "I don't know. Just" she paused to sigh and shake her head. "Just go get ready, we'll finish up preparing and hope that the boys show up" The older woman said.

"And if they don't?" MJ asked from the bar. The air of the club felt charged and thick. Everyone was holding their breath and looking at the owner. They all needed the answer like they needed oxygen. "Then we don't open tonight. I'll still pay you and have you do something tonight, I know I can't let you down. Performers can practice your routines and everyone else can do inventory or deep clean the place" May said, she seemed so tired.

"The place is already clean" Flash complained. "Duh, we sell food and drinks here. Of course it's clean" MJ said, rolling her eyes. "And because we sell food and drinks, it doesn't hurt to do a lot of cleaning and besides, what a better time than a night without customers to do a deep clean? Those are a lot of work" Ned added. "We gotta be due for a deep clean, right?" Liz piped up. "We have one scheduled next week, but it wouldn't hurt getting it out of the way" Aunt May said.

Looking at the scene before him, Peter felt bad. It wasn't his fault for what Harry did but he was still the reason why the security guard wasn't here. He also felt guilt for lying about who he was to these people. They didn't know he was a demon. The young-looking brunet walked into the back to put his things into his locker and get changed into his costume. Suppose it wouldn't hurt to run his routine wearing the costume.

While he was back there, he missed the sound of the door opening and shutting. And he didn't see the recognizable hulking form with a hidden face that had just entered.

Wade.
