TW: SHOOTING AND MINOR SEXUAL ASSAULT REFERENCE

They say time seems to slow down when you're experiencing a traumatic situation or when you're about to die. For Helena, that'd never been the case.

In the movies, they usually used slow motion for dramatic moments, for deadly actions, in order to represent how quickly it all actually happened in comparison. Of course, it also made it easier for the human brain to understand such violent actions that happened in a split second.

Helena'd had her fair share of near death experiences: from the car accident to the attack, she knew how it was like. She was familiar with the momentary confusion, the dry throat and panic that filled one's body once they thought their life was at risk.

The slowing down, however, that was new to her. She'd never seen her surroundings in slow motion or felt time go by slower than it should. Not like that time, at least.

Helena heard the gunshot. She heard the gunshot and thought it had been directed at her. Then, she realized she didn't feel any pain, she was still standing.

That's when she opened her eyes, to see something that made her wish she hadn't. Gary Clark had his gun still pointed, his finger still in the trigger. However, the gun was no longer pointed at her.

Looking to her left, Helena's heart stopped at the sight before her. Little Alice laid on the floor, her teddy bear ripped open by the bullet that had been fired against her, the toy destroyed along with her innocence. In the air, Helena could still see the stuffing from Mr. Cuddles falling, her brain processing it in slow motion. Then, her eyes were caught by the red, by all the red. A bullet had lodged itself in the small girl's chest, blood quickly pouring out onto the floor as her blue eyes were open and lifeless.

As her time perception returned to normal, the woman let out a broken sob, almost forgetting about the gunman in front of her. That was, until the gun was pointed back to her.

"Y-you shot he-her." She shocked out, still in shock at the situation.

"No!" The man let out, his voice impassive as he waved the hand holding onto the gun. "You killed her like you killed my Allison. I didn't want to shoot all those people. I only planned to shoot Dr. Shepherd, Dr. Webber and Dr. Grey... and you."

Behind the man, Helena could see Arizona and Callie walking outside the room they had been in, alarmed by the gunshot. She saw Arizona's teary face and eyes, Callie's expression one of shock and fear.

"You killed my wife. So I'm going to kill you." He told her, his voice monotone and emotionless.

Her eyes focused back on the man in front of her, taking a deep breath as she felt a shiver go down her spine. This was it.
