"Hey, by the way. How's Dixie doing?"

Noah stopped in his tracks for a split second before pivoting and stomping up to Griffin, staring at him inches away from his face. "How's she doing? You mean since you sexually harassed her?"

Griffin just laughed at the comment, like he was proud of himself. Proud of how he made Dixie feel. Noah was furious, he shoved Griffin back and practically screamed at him. "Why is that funny!" Griffin stopped his smug taunts and shifted to pure anger. "What are you gonna do about it?"

Noah became even more infuriated, which he didn't think was possible. He shoved him back once more, this time harder with more force. Griffin retaliated by swinging a punch at Noah.

Griffin had become much bigger and stronger over the summer so it was a harder fight than before, but eventually after a few punches were thrown Noah had pushed Griffin to the ground. Neither of them were injured or too scratched up, and the fight was short-lived.

"Yo, boys! Quit it!" Blake had been shouting at the both of them to stop and was now yelling from a few feet away, "Neither of you will become captain if you're starting fights! Noah!" Noah looked up at him while he pinned Griffin Down. "How would Dixie feel?"

Noah's eyes softened, he finally realized Blake was right. This wouldn't accomplish anything, what happened to Dixie will still have happened, Griffin will still be a jerk. The only thing that would come of this is a disappointed Dixie and an angry coach.

Noah backed away from Griffin and he got up from the floor. They stared each other down for another moment before Griffin trudged away to his car. Noah watched him go as he calmed down.

"Noah. We need to talk." Noah took a deep breath and walked up to his coach, who had seen everything. He was terrified of what he was going to say. "What the hell was that?" Noah frowned, "Um..."

"Listen, Noah, you're one of my best boys. And I was seriously considering you to be our team captain. But after what I just saw I'm not so sure you'd be the right fit." Noah sighed, "Look coach, I-"

"Just go home tonight and rest. And when you come back for practice tomorrow I expect you to do better, I expect you to be better." Noah just nodded and then walked sadly back to the others. He just blew his shot.

The next day when Noah showed up for practice after school, he walked into the locker room to see the coach and all his teammates except for Griffin.

All of the boys were focused on the coach and Noah joined them in waiting for him to speak. "Boys, I know practice hasn't started yet. but I've already decided who the captain is. Or rather, captains.

"Blake, please step forward. Now yesterday I was really angry with Noah for getting aggressive with another teammate." Noah frowned, he was disappointed in himself. "But then, Blake came to me and explained the truth. After I heard what Griffin did I made the decision to suspend him from our team for a few days."

Noah snapped his head to Blake and they looked at each other. Noah gave him a thankful smile and Blake nodded. Blake was always an amazing friend to Noah, they always had each other's back. Knowing Blake did this voluntarily made Noah eternally grateful.

"Blake's ability to stop the fight from going further, and his willingness to stick up for his teammates and do what was right, convinced me that he would make a great captain." The other boys all started clapping and Noah couldn't help but whoop at his best friend as the coach handed him a special captain's jersey.
