The next morning, I have a slight hangover after drinking two bottles of wine with Lucy last night.
Luckily, she only lives a couple of houses away or else she would have had to sleep here last night. I open my eyes groggily and peer at my iPhone screen. 8.20am!
Shit! I have twenty minutes to get myself and Isla dressed and fed before school starts. I jump out of bed, ignoring the small headache, and shove on the closest pair of jeans I can find. They are a little snug (I blame it on the delicious cakes that I serve at the shop) and throw on one of my V-neck jumpers that clings to my breasts.
I rush to the bathroom and wash my face before applying a little foundation and mascara. I brush my teeth in record time, pull a brush through my hair and head towards Isla's bedroom.
"Morning sleepyhead. Mum overslept today so we need to get a move on." I greet her.
She groans and stretches in bed, "I don't want to go to school." She whinges moodily.
"Well you have to. So up please. I will be downstairs making breakfast." I tell her, before rushing down the stairs.
Luckily, I always make sure her uniform is out and ready for the start of a new day along with her bag and everything else she needs.
I head into the kitchen and chuck the two bottles of wine into the recycling box and the wine glasses in the sink. I grab a clean bowl and spoon before pouring some of Isla's favourite cereal into it and cover it with milk. I make her a glass of juice and place them both down on the kitchen table.
"Isla! Breakfast!" I call out.
I hear her groan loudly again before getting out of bed. She stomps along her bedroom floor to the bathroom before coming downstairs.
She plops down at the kitchen table and begins spooning the cereal into her mouth. I make sure everything is ready while she is eating her breakfast and have a quick drink of water."Right, baby, time to get dressed."
"When am I sleeping at Stacey's house? Tomorrow?"
"No, honey, the day after."
"I can't wait!"
"Good. You have to make sure you're a good girl for Lucy." I warn her.
"I will be."
"Come on then, let's get dressed. Don't forget you have after school club today so I will pick you up at 4.30." I remind her.
I was always kind of glad when Isla had her after school club as it meant I could help out at the coffee shop for a little longer. I always felt so guilty that I could only do between the hours of 9 and 3 and left it to the other girls to open and close.
We opened at 8.30am so I wasn't missing too much in the morning. We closed at 5.30pm, which wasn't too bad, but unless Lucy could have Isla for me, I was never there for closing time."Come on, Isla. We have less than five minutes to get ready and out of the house." I nag.
"I'm moving!" She bites back.
Yeah, at a snails pace as usual! It doesn't help that my head hurts.
She reluctantly gets up from her chair and follows me into the living-room so that she can get her uniform on. I leave her to it while I collect her coat and shoes from the hallway and grab my own bag.
I manage to get Isla to school only a minute or two late and arrange with Lucy that I would drop Isla off at her house on Saturday afternoon, so that I could get ready for my date.
