Midnight is creeping closer and closer.

Jed informed me not to meet whoever it was who sent the email. Jed and his partner are going instead. I argued profusely at this as the email stated no cops or Rachel dies. But Jed assured me that they knew what they were doing and that they wouldn't let the abductor see them. They wanted to see if they could get an ID of the person and then maybe follow them to where they are keeping Rachel.

I can't keep still, I am pacing my studio, phone on loud in my hand, waiting for the call. Joyce offered to come around and wait with me but I told her to get back home to her partner and get some rest. I didn't want to keep snapping at her.

I check my watch again. Five to midnight. I can't wait any longer.
I pick up my car keys and leave my studio building. As I get into my car, my phone starts to ring. It's Jed.
I press accept quickly and put the phone to my ear.

"Stay where you are." Jed mutters.

"What?"

"I know you are in your car."

"How did you know that?" I ask him.

"You're my best friend. I know you. Me and Phil are waiting in an unmarked car a few meters away. The suspect is here waiting but they are wearing a mask. It looks like a man. Quite stocky. We are waiting a little longer and then we will try and follow him. He doesn't know we are here watching him, so if you turn up now all guns blazing, he will run and he may hurt Rachel. So please, do as you're told and stay at home." Jed orders me.

I sigh and drop my head onto my steering wheel, "Ok." I give in.

"I will call you when I know more." Jed tells me then hangs up.

I sigh again and get out of my car, slowly making my at back up to my apartment. I would give anything to go and find out who that bastard is.

Around half an hour later, after nearly pacing a hole in my floor, my phone starts ringing again.

"Please tell me you got him?"

An unfamiliar voice starts to speak and my skin prickles, "Now, that wasn't a very clever thing to do, was it?"

"What do you mean?" I ask him.

"Sending your cop friends to follow me. Clearly you don't know how to listen." The voice says.

"I didn't know they were going to do that. Listen, just let Rachel go and I will bring you the money." I beg him.

"You've had your chance." The voice mutters.

I hear a movement down the phone and then a bang on a door, followed by the voice calling out, "It's lover boy on the phone."

I hear Rachel scream out my name and my blood runs cold. My teeth clench hard and I take a deep breath.

"You so much as touch one hair on her head and I will end you!" I mutter down the phone.

"We sent your cops on a wild goose chase so good luck finding us." The voice tells me and hangs up.

I throw my head back and let out a loud scream in frustration.
I never should have trusted Jed!
