🐱 Chapter 10. Surprise

Boredom struck again. My mom wasn't home and she wouldn't come home for the next couple of hours either. She had some important meetings. I decided to visit the base and search for Mirage. Just thinking about him makes my tail twitch in happiness. I couldn't wait to see him again. It's been a while and he never called or showed anymore. It made me wonder if he didn't want me around anymore or if he was busy.

Twenty minutes later, I arrived but the empty base indicated they were on a mission. Nevertheless, I headed for Mirage's office and started to continue the work Dino used to let me do when I was still working here. Around the afternoon, I heard footsteps which told me it's most likely Mirage. I sniffed the air. Yup, that's his scent.

My excitement level started to rise so badly that when he walked through the door, unaware of my presence, I knocked him off his feet. "MIRAGE!" I shouted in excitement. He dropped the files he was holding as I jumped into his chest. He uttered a Yelp in shock while we both ended up on the ground. "MIRAGE! I am so happy to see you!" I shouted. "Jeez... you gave me a spark atta—" I cut him off by hugging him so tightly he was barely able to say anything.

"Sky, hey... Let me get up."

He pushed me aside and slowly got up. I excitedly circled him and he seemed to be a little surprised by my sudden appearance. I probably should have called first. I pushed him down in his chair and crawled on his lap. I wanted cuddles and I wanted to be held. Deep down, I wished he would stroke my ears and tail, but I couldn't tell him. Not yet at least.

I nuzzled in Dino's neck and didn't let go. "Sweetspark..." he patted my back. "Please calm down." I looked up to meet his gorgeous ocean blue eyes. "I am just happy to see you!" I exclaimed and hugged him again. "I hadn't noticed," he sarcastically commented. I looked at him, he didn't sound happy to see me. "You'd like me to leave? I asked. "It's just a really bad timing... that's all."

"Oh..." I got up. "I just wanted to see you. It's been a while..." I replied. Dino got up and walked over to the metal cabinet. "I know, maybe another time?" He asked. It was an implicit remark to make me go away. "Sure..." my voice died down. "Well, good luck..." I walked up to the door and left. I have been waiting for him for hours just to get spent back home.

Once at home, I stared at myself in the mirror. Maybe my mom is right, maybe it's just stupid idea of mine to think he would accept me. My vision became blurry and tears soon rolled down my cheek in big amounts. With my ears flat and tail low I sat down. I sighed and laid down, curling up and wrapped my tail around me. A knock on the door caught my attention, I quickly covered my ears and tail, brushing some tears off my face and walked over to the door.

Last person I had expected to see was Ratchet. What is he doing here? I blinked a couple of times, "Ratchet? What are you doing here?" I asked, flashing a nervous smile on my face. "I think you know why I am here..." he replied. I never got any visitors, so this did brighten up my day even though I know he wanted answers. He seemed to be a little shocked as I dragged him in, tightly holding his wrist. I sat him down and sat on his lap, hugging him. "Alright... you're okay?" he asked as he wrapped his arms around me. "Just lonely..." I replied. He hummed, "why don't you go outside then?" he asked.

"I know what you're trying to do..." I stated. "Do you?" he asked as he leaned back against the backrest of the couch. "Yes! You'd want to figure out what my secret is!" I stated. "Is it a secret?" he asked. "Yeah, unfortunately... maybe if people were nicer, I wouldn't have to hide it..." I sighed and rested my head on his shoulder. "Is it that bad?" he finally asked. "I don't know if it's bad or not... I mean, it's part of me and... I am not embarrassed, but people just think I am weird, different and I belong in a lab..." I muttered. "Should I have a look at it?" he asked. I looked into his eyes, "but you can't tell anyone... promise?" I asked.

"I can't tell anyone without your permission either. It's part of my job to keep things private!" he stated firmly in a matter of fact tone. "Even my mom! If she finds out––" I cut my sentence off and felt a sad feeling welling up. "I won't, promise," he stated. "I am a Neko..." I said. "What?" he asked. "A Neko is japanese for cat. I am a half cat, half human... I have a tail and cat ears. It happened when people experimented on me," I explained. I removed the cap from my head and allowed my ears to perch up.

"I have full control over them... it also affects my behavior. I love milk, I do everything for it. I like to get some attention from people, but like I told you before, Neko's are rarely accepted by other species, so that's why I am basically isolated here. I won't survive on my own and if people find out... I am in a lot of trouble. My mom has thought about amputating my ears and tail, but I didn't want it... although, if she really wants to, she will even do it herself. She doesn't like me the way I am... she loves me, but not the cat part of me."

Ratchet studied me and I was afraid of his reaction. "On Cybertron... we have Neko's as well, I am not surprised to see a human hybrid but I am concerned about the fact your mother might amputate your ears and tail. It can cause some serious problems, infections, horrible pains... wouldn't be fair either to cut them off without your permission, I just think your mom has to live with the fact you're a Neko. It does explain your behavior towards people..." he trailed off. I twitched my ears, "I am just scared to be rejected. My mom is telling me all my life I get rejected by people if I show them my true self. I am just afraid..." I whispered. He flashed me a smile. "You won't get rejected by our species! Really. We are used to seeing Neko's and we know how cuddly and sweet they are. You're only half human and not Cybertronian," Ratchet stated. I nuzzled in his chest again, "Dino doesn't know?" he asked. "No, I am afraid my mom will hurt me if I tell someone the truth..." I replied. I have never felt so happy before, to hear someone say I will not be rejected. That's all I ever wanted, to be accepted the way I am.
