🐱 Chapter 12. The truth

I headed for the base instead of going to school. Soldiers guarding the base opened up for me. After all, I am a familiar face here. "Is Dino here?" I asked. They shook their heads. "He left this morning for a small mission, he'll be back around the afternoon," the man spoke. I nodded and walked inside.

"Skylar, honey."

I jumped a little as Chromia walked up to me and embraced me. "Why have you cried?" She asked. I hadn't expect this reaction from her at all, apparently she sensed my sadness. "Come on," she took my hand and led me towards the cafeteria. "What's wrong?" She asked.

"My mom..."
She flashed me a sympathetic smile. "I ran off... I can't do it anymore," I mumbled. "Oh sweetie. You can stay here," she stated. "I am a Neko... she wants to cut off my ears and tail," I said quietly. "Really? We had Neko's as well," she said before her face turned serious. "Why would she?" She questioned.

"Disappointment."

She gave me a sad look. "I am sorry to hear, Skylar. You don't deserve that. After all you have been through," she said. I shrugged my shoulders, "I just want to live a normal life. She doesn't make me feel normal at all," I mumbled sadly. "Does Dino know?" She questioned. "No, he doesn't."

Chromia kept me company throughout the day until Dino arrived. She had asked him to come to the mess hall. "Skylar?" He embraced me. "She has a lot to tell you, Mirage. Don't be sad, okay?" I nodded. "Thank you Chromia," she smiled and left. "Come on..." Dino took my hand and walked me to his office.

"What's going on?" He asked. "It's my mother, Mirage. She wants to amputate my ears and tail... I am a Neko." I took of my beanie to show him. "I got scared... and something snapped in me. If she really did love me like she says she does... then she wouldn't even consider cutting them off."

Dino smiled and reached out for my head. "I don't want you to loose them either. It makes you special and beautiful," he murmured. I embraced Dino and nuzzled in his neck. "A lot of things get clear now," he murmured. I gave a small nod, "you'd like to live here with us instead?" He asked. I smiled and nodded, "yes."

"First, change your clothing. I want to see your tail and ears," he ordered and walked over his room. I changed my clothing, I still had some clothing here and cut a hole in the shorts for my tail to fit. "You look amazing." Dino wrapped his arms around me and pulled me against his body,— kissing my cheek. "Absolutely beautiful," he murmured.

I blushed madly at his statement. "Thank you."
We walked around, spoke to some people and bots. Lennox was surprised but not shocked or mean. He said I am still welcome here and he's glad to have me back, although, I think Mirage is even more excited.

I got a phone call from mother. "Should I pick up?" I asked. Dino hesitated but nodded, "tell her the truth," he stated. "Mom?"
"Where are you!" She snapped. "I have decided to leave. Apparently you don't understand me and I am sick of being isolated. I love my ears and tail, I won't let you take them. Dino likes them too... I don't ever want to see you again!" I hissed and disconnected the call. I even blocked her so she wouldn't stalk me.

The mech wrapped his arm around me and took me with him. "I do like them," he murmured. A warm feeling spread. Mirage took me to his room and we hung out until I had fallen asleep. The next day, I woke up with Mirage behind me, protectively holding me. His breathing fanned down my neck and sent shivers down my spine. I purred in delight. It actually felt really good. I shut my eyes and enjoyed his warmth. "You'd like that?" I heard him whisper. "You better don't get up." His chuckled but got up anyway.

'I am serious?' I complained. He kissed the crook of my neck. 'Yeah, we'll... we can't hide here forever?' He said and swayed his legs over the edge. 'Great,' I muttered. 'I have a training session. Ironhide thought it would be a good idea. Some sort of tram building excessive and if am late, I'll drive night patrols till the end of the month, so... as much as I wanna stay here in bed with little kitten, I have to go. Do you mind?'

I shook my head rapidly and rolled on my back. 'No, it's fine. You should go. I don't want you to drive night patrols till the end of the night,' I mumbled. He smiled and kissed my cheek before walking up the bathroom. Ten minutes later, I was all alone in his room. I felt really wrecked, even after sleeping. I blamed my mom for that. I still couldn't believe the horrible idea she had. She seriously wanted to put me through it. It definitely didn't make me feel better.

I got up and started my daily routine, ghosted my moms phone calls and headed towards the cafeteria. Although people had seen me the other day, they still stopped what they were doing to have a look at me. It's fine. I need to get used to it. Although, I probably won't reveal anything in public, the base is fine. I sat down and started eating, slowly while watching what was going on the main hanger through the huge window.

It was quite busy. Some people were getting ready to leave for a mission and others came back. From what I heard recently, Starscream was seen in Wyoming and and few others Virginia and Philadelphia, which isn't too far. Prime didn't know why. Maybe to challenge the Autobots, but for now it still remained a mystery.
