Harry appeared out on the grounds more frequently than Prongs thought. Every Friday after lessons Harry and Ron would go down to Hagrid's hut for tea, and James would sit and listen in the bush. He was impressed to learn that Harry had become the youngest Gryffindor seeker in a century, and tried his best to get down to the Quiddich pitch to watch him play.

He was also happy when Harry, Ron, and a girl called Hermione, who had started to come down with them, dislikes a certain Professor Snape. This left James in a tiff as he tried to work out how Snivillus had got a job as a Hogwarts professor. The weeks passed by in the same old routine until one night.

Prongs was minding his own business, thinking about a rumour that had gone round the forest about a beast, in his usual spot by Hagrid's hut, when he heard the games keeper enter the forest with Fang and some students.

"Harry, you go with Malfoy. Ron, Hermione you'll be with me" he heard. Harry? Surely not his Harry?

"Ok, but I want Fang" came an unfamiliar sneer.

"Alright. But I'll tell you, he's a right coward"

The group split and Prongs followed the sound of lighter footsteps. Harry came into view first, followed by Fang and a blond boy that must be Malfoy. Prongs wasn't sure what they were looking for but followed all the same. He had to make sure Harry stayed safe. The forest was dangerous after all.

However, the pair were put in peril when they found a dead unicorn with a beast drinking its blood. A twig snapped and the beast turned to confront them. The Malfoy boy ran, screaming, Fang following closely behind. Harry stood frozen in fear. The beast started towards him and Harry stepped backwards and fell on to the floor.

Prongs thinking on his feet – well hooves- jumped into view, rearing back onto his hind legs. The beast fled allowing Prongs to turn his attention to his son. Walking towards him and lowering himself down, allowing the frightened boy to climb on his back. After a slight hesitation Harry climbed on and Prongs took him back to Hagrid. Then, looking Harry dead in the eye, he gave a quick grunt and shot back into the forest leaving four very confused people behind.

The rest of the year continued peacefully. The beast that Prongs scared off vanished before the end of the year, He had no idea where it had gone, but was glad that it did go. It was sad to think that the end of the term was only a few days away. Harry would head home – where ever that was- and Prongs would not see him all summer. He followed the boy and his friends to the station, watched them leave on the train, then went back to his home in the forest, hoping that the summer would go quick, that Harry would be back soon, and vowing to watch over him, to keep him safe.
