A/N: Hi! I won't usually write authors note's in the beginning. I'm gonna try something new on this one! I'm gonna write in third person, something which I don't normally do. So excuse my terrible writing.
8 year old Sophie:
"The doctor's office?!" Sophie shouted. Grady picked her up and put her in the car.
"Yes, Sophie, the doctors office," Grady, Sophie's dad, confirmed. He closed the car door and took his seat in the driver's seat. Edaline, Sophie's mom, opened the door to sit in the passenger seat.
"W-w-will they give me a shot?" Sophie whimpered, her lip quivering.
Grady started up the car and reversed the car from the driveway in San Diego. Edaline looked back and put a hand on Sophie's, "Honey it's a check up," she said softly. "They'll give you a shot. But it'll be over before you can say 'bibbity-boppoty-boo!'" Edaline said bopping Sophie's nose. A small giggle escaped her. Once she realized that was Edaline's intention, she quickly crossed her arms and arched her eyebrows above her piercing brown eyes. Her shoulder-length, choppy blonde hair shined in the sunlight.
"But I don't wanna," Sophie whined, tears welling up in her eyes. "I don't like needles! I don't wanna! I don't wanna!" Tears ran down Sophie's face and dropped off her chin.
"Shh, it's okay," Edaline soothed. Her fingers brushed away the tears away from my face.
The car slowed to a stop. Grady opened the car door and motioned for them to follow him.
A huge brownstone building stood before them. Ivy crawled around the bricks with moss seeping out of the cracks. Bare, scary trees surrounded the building with more cars than Sophie could found parked in the parking lot. Big red letters are attached to the center of the building. Julian Pediatric Center. Ugh, even the name seemed scary.
"Sophie. Sophie!" A hand waved in front of her face. "Honey we have to actually go in to the place," Grady said. Sophie slightly nodded and clutched Edaline's hand like it was the only thing keeping her together. It probably was. Edaline rubbed slow circles on Sophie's back. "There's nothing to be worried about." A/N: I know I just went full on Alden right there 🤪
They took a seat in the waiting room. Grady went to the front desk and started talking to one of the nurses and filling out some form. But Sophie wasn't paying attention. Needles was her biggest fear. She's never been to a check-up before but she saw them from movies. They were big and pointy and so, so scary. And when the needle pierced the characters skin, they always scream. Sophie never had friends who could confirm that, but she knew enough.
"Sophie Foster," a voice called out.
Sophie's fingers gripped the arm chair tighter. "No." Her whole body started trembling. "No no no."
Edaline picked her up, "It'll be okay honey."
"No!" Sophie screamed. "I don't want to!"
"Breathe, Sophie," Grady said.
"Room 5 please. And do you mind if you share the room with another patient? The parents were being a bit...difficult," the nurse explained.
Edaline smiled, "Of course! No problem."
They walked into the room. A boy with tousled blonde hair and piercing ice blue eyes sat on a chair next to the patient's bed. He lowered his gaze and looked at his feet. Next to the boy sat his parents. His dad had the boy's eyes but they were colder. His blonde hair was slicked back with gel. The boy's mother on the other hand was absolutely beautiful. She had light brown hair in a bun. She had a perfect complexion with an inch of makeup on her face. But her expression gave away her true self. She had the same coldness as her husband and she kept shooting glares at the boy.
