Receiving looked like fun. As Y/n watched Nishi practice, she observed how he'd always stay lowish, so he could move, but get under the volleyball so he could receive it back up. She caught movement out of the side of her eye but paid no attention to it, still watching Nishinoya.
A million thoughts flew through her head before she saw it. led as he saw the ball coming towards him, the way his spikey hair moved when he received it, the lock of blonde hair that would sit on his forehead. His head turned towards you, and he started running, yelling something she couldn't make out. Her head turned slightly to the left, the movement she had previously seen was a volleyball, hurtling towards her head with the speed and strength of a brilliant spike.
"FRICK." She shouted, trying to move away, but not quickly enough.
Thwack. She heard the ball hit something. But it wasn't her. Her eyes that were previously squeezed shut opened wide, an arm with a fist blocking her from getting hit.
"You alright?" Nishinoya looked at her, dropping his arm as the ball hit the floor with a soft boing and rolled to a stop near Koshi's feet. The distant yell of "Sorry Y/n!" from Tanaka could be heard over the screeching of shoes.
"Yeah." She breathed, looking up at him.
"Don't worry, if you ever almost get hit by a volleyball again, I'll be there to protect you." He poked his chest with his thumb proudly, which was freaking adorable. And there was that 'I'll be there' again. She could feel her heart thudding, warmth spreading through her body again, pricking her cheeks.
"T-thank you." She smiled shyly at him as he ran back to practice more. Her heart felt like it was about to beat out of it's chest. That might have been because of the adrenaline from almost getting knocked out by a volleyball, but she highly doubted it. It was official.
She was having some sort of attack.
It might have been anxiety, or a heart attack, and it didn't seem like one of her usual panic attacks, so she had no idea what it could be. So she decided to ask for help, walking over to Ennoshita who was standing relatively close to her. He was smart, maybe he could help.
"Um, Ennoshita?" She tapped his arm, and he jumped, turning around to face her.
"Yes Y/n? How can I help you?" She bit her lip, fiddling with her fingers.
"I um, I feel weird but it's not like any of my anxiety or panic attacks, and I don't have a history of heart attacks so I doubt it's one of those-" She was cut off as he blinked and laughed.
"Okay, first off tell me how you're feeling. There's a possibility that it's none of them." He noticed her glancing around nervously, and he smiled at her. "Would you rather going somewhere private?" She nodded her head, and Ennoshita went over and said a few quick words to Daichi before leading her outside.
"So, please explain." He tilted his head at her softly after they sat down, trying his best to be as encouraging and open as a calm Koshi Sugawara.
"I-" She breathed in, calming herself. "My heart seems to be beating double time, and I feel kinda shaky. Also I really want to smile which freaks me out because that's new and I'll look like an idiot if I'm just standing there grinning. I'm blinking a lot more than usual, and I feel like I'm on cloud 900." She finished, and Ennoshita looked at her, seemingly deep in thought for a moment.
"I think I know what's happening with you, Y/n." He looked at her, his eyes serious. "It could be dangerous, so be careful." Y/n looked at him, slightly scared.
"W-what is it?" She bit her lip again, playing with her fingers.
"I think..." He looked at her for a few seconds, his eyes slightly pitying. "I think you have a crush on Nishinoya." She sat there speechless for a few seconds.
"Y/n?" Ennoshita waved his hand on front of her face, trying to break her out of her stupor.
"Y/N?!?!" He flapped his arms, before calling to the others for help.
"GUYS HELP, I THINK I BROKE Y/N!!" He shouted, panicking fully now. He grabbed her shoulders and shook her, trying to get some response out of her. The rest of the team came running out, and they crowded around the two other members of their group.
"Y/n? Y/n?!" Nishinoya taped her head, then grabbed her hand, frantically shaking it, his eyes wide.
"Eep-" She scrambled back, looking at everyone surrounding her. "What the-" Nishinoya tilted his head at her.
"Did you just say 'eep'?" He grinned, and she felt her face flushing again as she lay on the ground, and thought about what Ennoshita had said, her hands covering her face as she tilted her head towards the sky.
"Nooooo~" Y/n groaned, before rolling over onto her stomach and sitting up. "Sorry if I scared you guys." She scratched the back of her head sheepishly. "You can go back and practice if you want."
"You sure you're okay?" Koshi looked at her, his head tilting, the fading sunlight once again glinting off his hair, making it seem like fine strands of beautiful silver. Y/n could tell Daichi saw it too from the soft way he was looking at her brother, his eyes admiring, adoring.
"Yeah-?" She trailed off, more of a question than an answer.
"You guys go back, I'll stay with her-" Ennoshita grabbed Nishinoya's arm before he could finish the sentence, shooting Y/n a knowing look before ushering him inside with his speculation that maybe her brother should take care of this. She watched her senpai's arms flailing around for a bit before he stopped and followed Ennoshita inside, the rest of the team, scared by Suga, hurried after them. Except for Daichi.
"So what was that?" The inevitable question came from Y/n's older brother. She bit her lip.
"Nothing." She smiled and walked back to the gym.
