Here's one for you DM's that want some nifty cool coloured gems in their campaign.
Description: A dark blue stone in the shape of a blood drop.
Backstory: These gems are made though a rare mixture of pressure, heat, & materials which allows them to form. They are named after snake's blood, which common myth says is blue (when in game, it's more of a red or a green).
Material Value: These gems, though rare, aren't particularly valuable. They are considered worse version of other blue stones. That being said they still catch a good price, considering that they are a type of gem.
Magical Value: The True Value of these stones are in their magical value. They can be used to replace other gems in spell components. They commonly replace diamond & or other lesser gems.
