The two stood in front of the hospital, hand-in-hand. Being at a hospital for her grandmother was nothing new for Y/n, but this one was new, and so was the reason for her grandma being there. Still, she held her head high as they walked into the building.
The smell of cleaning products wafted to their noses as the automatic doors opened, and a feeling of dread sunk into their stomachs. Though Saiki was not there for someone in his own family, he felt the negative emotions as well, knowing how hurt the girl beside him was. The hand he was holding was shaking slightly as they asked the room number from the man at the front desk, and the ride in the elevator was silent.
Finally, they stood in front of the room her grandmother was in, and Y/n took in a large breath. Saiki pulled the girl closer to him, comforting her.
"Are you okay?" She slowly shook her head no, and let out a soft, dry, laugh.
"No, but I have to do this," The doors were pushed open, and Y/n's hand left Saiki's as a woman engulfed her in a hug.
"Y/n, grandma hasn't seen you in so long. Hell, neither have I," The woman laughed excitedly. She noticed the pinkette standing behind her daughter and quickly dragged him into the hug, shocking him. "Oh, are you the boyfriend my daughter was talking about? I'm Y/n's mother!"
"Mom, how is mamaw doing?" Y/n whispered, looing over to the frail woman laying on the hospital bed in the middle of the room.
"Oh, uh, not the best. doctors says she has only a few days left," The air in the room turned thick, but Y/n's mother planted a smile back on her face. "But she already told me that she wants to see us happy for as long as she can before she's gone, so try to stay cheerful!"
-----
The three sat in the room, whisper talking until Y/n's grandmother woke up. Their heads turned to a gasp, to see the older woman smiling brightly in the two teens direction.
"Y/n, you got a boyfriend!" She said excitedly, though her voice was rather quiet because of her condition.
"Yes, mamaw, I did. This is Kusuo Saiki," Saiki bowed to the older woman, and she gasped in joy, clasping her frail hands together.
"Oh what a gentleman!" The old woman offered a rather toothless smile in the direction of the teens, and Y/n grabbed onto Saiki's hand, dragging him to her grandmother.
Saiki didn't know how to feel, standing in front of a woman who everyone thought was insane because of the ways he had changed the world. He felt guilty for making the woman that way, and maybe her granddaughter as well. He wondered if anyone else in the world was like that as well. He was sure if there was, there was nothing he could do about it at that point. Things would only get worse if he changed things back to the way they were.
"A classmate?" The grandmother asked, smiling up at the pink haired boy. He nodded in response, but it looked like she wanted more than that.
"We've been in the same school for a while now but only really met this year,"
The group melted into a conversation about school and the other friends Y/n had made that year, things they had done together, and how Y/n was doing while living alone.
Saiki had no idea that Y/n was rather lonely being home alone all the time.
After a while, it was late. Y/n's grandma and mother had fallen asleep, and Y/n was on the brink of it as she and Saiki watched mindless game shows on the small tv in the room.
"You can teleport home to sleep tonight if you want," Y/n mumbled to Saiki, catching him by surprise. "I assume you would like it more than sleeping on a hospital couch," She yawned, stretching, her shirt rising slightly. Saiki noticed a strange feeling in his stomach at the sight, and turned away, shaking his head no.
"I don't want to leave you here. I'll stay," He said quietly, watching Y/n walk across the room to turn off the tv. They shrugged, going pushing the small couch so that it connected with the footrest that was the same length. She then folded one of the blankets into a pillow shape and placed it at the head of the couch, spreading the other blanket across the couch and footrest so it looked like a bed. She waved Saiki over, sitting nearest to the back of the couch to give him room.
"Come on, then. You'll have to sleep somewhere and this is the best we have," While he did know that sleeping in the same spot as a girl was not good, he agreed there was really no other solution. That was, unless he was going to sleep on the floor, which he did not like the idea of. So, he crawled in after Y/n, laying down next to her and trying not to fall off from how little room there was. She pulled him closer, mumbling that if they were not close, then he would fall in the middle of the night.
The closeness made his breath hitch, and his face to flush. He was turned the opposite direction of her, but it was not helping his situation. He could feel her breath fanning the back of his neck, and the position felt all too intimate for his taste. Strangely, he did not feel like moving away. Instead, he had the urge to turn towards her, to see her face as she slept. He noticed that she was breathing rather heavy as well, and her heart beat had quickened. He knew that it was signs of someone having feelings for the person they were near, or maybe afraid, but he thought maybe she was just nervous to be sleeping so close to a boy, and tried not to think further into it.
