You're the best, Kusuo

"Thanks for letting me come over, Kusuo," A small smile made its way on Y/n's face as she entered said boys home. His parents were not home at the time, so he saw no problem in the girl coming over. Actually, he had wanted to see her. He wanted to see how she was doing. They would text or even call sometimes, but it had been a week and a half since they left the hospital and he had not seen her in person.

"How have you been?" He felt like it was a stupid question, but did not know how else to word it. Her smile faltered as she looked around the room.

"As good as I could be, I guess. Texting you has been keeping my mood up a bit," He was glad that he could help her feel better, even a little. Saiki lead her to his room, where they usually hung out when she came over. "What have you been doing? It's summer, I hope you've been enjoying yourself at least,"

"Enjoying my alone time," Y/n laughed a little, rolling her eyes.

"Jeez, sorry for intruding," She started to turn towards the door, but felt a tug on her wrist.

"You know I didn't mean it like that,"

"Do I?" Saiki hesitated.

"Yes, I enjoy your company," Y/n looked like that was not what she was looking for. "... I like you," A smile spread across her face, and she laughed. Saiki felt his face flush in embarrassment.

"Aw, thanks Kusuo!" He couldn't find himself to be annoyed like he would be with anyone else.

The two settled down in front of Saiki's tv and played the shitty video games he had. He explained why all his games were shitty to Y/n already, so they just laughed together about how stupid the games were. It was rare someone would get Saiki to genuinely laugh, but Y/n found no trouble doing it.

The two were playing a knock off version of Smash Bros, complete with knock off versions of all the characters. It was stupid, and the game did not function very well either, but it was fun to laugh about the bad controls, sound effects, and knock off designs of the characters.

"Dude, Sanic is over powered," Y/n laughed and placed her controller down, turning to Saiki. "Let's do something else. I'm kind of getting tired of hearing Sanic repeat "Gotta go fast" on a loop,"

Saiki could not help but stare at the smile on Y/n's face. He was glad she could smile again after what had happened. She was a strong person, he noticed.

He also noticed that she still had not redyed her hair. Her original color was getting longer and longer. There was about an inch of color at the roots of her head.

"You are growing your hair out?"

"Oh, yeah. I gave my mom some science bullshit about hair color changing as you age and she bought it. I wanted to have my natural hair as long as I can before I go back to school,"

Saiki was glad that she was trying to embrace her natural hair color. He wished he could always see her as her natural self, not the make up covering her scars or the dye in her hair, or the eye contacts.

He liked looking at her in that moment, where he could see her h/c hair, and e/c eyes. He strangely liked seeing the scar on her cheek.

He hadn't noticed that he was staring until Y/n inched closer. Saiki's breath hitched. Their faces were about a foot away, and while that's not that close, Saiki felt like it was. His face had flushed a light pink. He was not sure where this was going, but whatever it was, he seemed to want it to happen.

Y/n stopped moving closer when they were a few inches apart. He could feel her breath fanning his lips, and he felt the urge to lean in even closer. Right when he thought she was going to kiss him, he felt her forehead hit his softly.

"Thank you Kusuo... For being here for me," she mumbled. Saiki didn't know what to say. His mind was running wild at the closeness, but he wanted to say something. He felt like he had to.

"I'll always be here for you," Saiki didn't know what he was saying. It felt right, but he had never thought about it like that. Would he always be there for Y/n? If he thought about it, he supposed he could never see himself leaving her side if she was in need.

Y/n laughed lightly, and Saiki's breath caught in his throat.

"You're really the best Kusuo," Her voice was almost so quiet you couldn't hear it. The moment felt almost too intimate to Saiki. He was sure it would end awkwardly, no matter what happened before then.

The two were staring into each other's eyes. Saiki wondered if they were going to kiss or not.  He felt himself wanting to, but felt like he couldn't make the first move.  They were so close that if they were any closer, then their lips would be touching. Saiki felt his hands get clammy.

Y/n reached for Saiki's hand and closed her eyes, not inching closer in the slightest. Her thumb absentmindedly brushed over the top of his hand, sending tingles up his arm. He squeezed hers in response, holding his breath as he finally made a move.

Their lips brushed against each other, barely touching. Saiki wanted more than anything to press onto her harder, but was scared of rejection. The feeling of it bubbled up in his chest as she had no response to his action, as if she were frozen. He almost pulled away, but her grip on his hand kept him from doing so. He felt the shakiness she had as she leaned into him, their lips connecting more than brushing from the action.

Saiki wasn't breathing, terrified of when the moment would end. What would she say? What would he say? Would things be awkward between them? Would she still want to be around him? Would she run the second they disconnected?

She felt like she couldn't breathe. She was trying to grasp at any air she had left in her lungs, but it felt like they had deflated the moment his lips brushed hers. She wanted this. She knew that. But she was also slightly disappointed.

Just like all her other male friends, he liked her romantically.
