TW: Death

=====

The following couple days were a little awkward, but strangely nice, for Saiki. He hung around Y/n and her mother and grandma a lot, but when they were not with the two, Y/n and himself would take walks in the hospital garden. Y/n claimed that she needed to have some fresh air and get out of the slightly gloomy atmosphere sometimes, and that's when they would go out for the walks.

Saiki found that he enjoyed spending so much time with her.

That was, until they were woken up to something horrible.

Saiki awoke to being shaken, opening his eyes in surprise to come face-to-face with Y/n's mother, looking panicked. It did not take long for Saiki to understand what was happening. He woke Y/n up as her mother went back to the hospital bed. Y/n's grandmothers doctor was at the bedside, along with a nurse.

Saiki caught that they said it was time. He felt his heart sink to his stomach.

Y/n raced to stand next to her mother when she was awake enough to tell what was happening. Saiki stood by her side, letting her squeeze the life out of him as she cried into his shirt.

The doctor and nurse moved aside so that the family could share their last words.

"Mamaw..." Y/n mumbled before hugging her grandmother, being as gentle as she could. "You were right. You were right about everything..." Saiki glanced at Y/n's mother to make sure she did not hear, but it seemed she was too busy crying her eyes out. He patted her on the back at an attempt at soothing her, and she nodded in appreciation.

Within the following moments, she was gone, and the room was filled with the tears of the two grieving family members. Saiki felt like crying, himself, from seeing such a thing happen, and seeing the two in such pain. He specially wished that Y/n did not have to go through such a thing.

Time seemed to be a blur for the few hours after that, until the three were walking from the hospital. The two women were hanging onto each other and sniffling, while Saiki walked on the daughters side, holding her free hand. She was holding it pretty hard.

-

Y/n and her mother returned to their home, where the mother hadn't been in months. Y/n's mother had her daughter and Saiki sit at the couch and thanked Saiki for being there for her daughter, before going to make tea.

"I'm sorry you had to see all of that," Y/n mumbled to him as she hung onto his arm.

"It's okay... I'm glad I could be there for you. To ease even a little bit of the pain," Saiki was embarrassed to say something like that, but he felt like he had to. She smiled in response, holding onto his arm harder.

"Thank you, Kusuo. You're the best boyfriend someone could ever wish for," Y/n smiled and closed her eyes as she hugged the pinkette, and he blushed rather hard to her comment. He found himself wishing that they were actually together and not in a fake relationship.

Faking the relationship would be harder since her mother was going to be living with her again. They would have to fake it more often, act more relationshipy because of being around her mom. Her mom would probably want to meet Saiki's eventually. It was going to be a problem, he thought.
