Poison Kiss
Chapter 1:
Ashlynn's POV:
As I fixed my makeup in the mirror, I silently cursed myself. I should have started getting ready at least half an hour before I did. Now here I was, with hair a mess and only half finished makeup. My dress lay in a wrinkled heap on my bed. My date hadn't even begun and things were already going wrong. This definitely wasn't a good sign.
Ugh, there goes the liquid eyeliner again! I grabbed a tissue and dabbed at my eyelid in a feeble attempt to keep it from smearing further. Doing so caused my mascara and eyeshadow to combine, creating another huge mess on my face.
"Argghh!" I cried in frustration, throwing my eyeliner at the mirror and stalking over to the bed. I sighed as I fell onto it, wiping at my face with a damp tissue.
"Are you alright?" my fraternal twin sister Sadie said, poking her head around the door. "You were sounding the distress call."
I groaned and sat up. "Don't even ask."
She giggled, noticing the smeared makeup. "I thought you were going on a date with Brian in like an hour?"
I nodded and pointed to my face. "Well, that was the plan."
She sighed. "Need a little help there, Ash?"
I nodded again and cast her an apologetic smile.
She scurried over and began cleaning off my face with makeup remover. Smart idea. Within half an hour, she had cleaned my face off and properly reapplied my makeup, taking care not to smear it.
She took a step back to admire her handy work. "Beautiful!" she said, smiling.
I jumped up and looked in the mirror. Not too bad. Her choice of eyeshadow color complimented my hazel eyes nicely, and the dark intensity of the eyeliner gently clashed with my milky skin, making it seem a bit lighter.
I played with a strand of my black hair thoughtfully. I didn't have enough time to do much with it, so a quick brushing would have to do.
Sadie held up my slightly wrinkled dress. "Don't you think you should put it on now?" she said, smiling.
I hurriedly shed my light blue nightdress and slipped into it, smoothing out a few wrinkles before glancing nervously in the mirror. Hmm.. It looked pretty nice, considering the fact that it had been lying on my bed for the past four hours as I decided what to wear.
The black material seemed to flow down my figure, stopping just above my knees. The top of the dress stretched gracefully across my chest.
"It's alright." I said in a small voice.
Sadie elbowed me. "Damn girl!" she teased. "You look good!" she grinned and I shoved her playfully.
She turned to walk out the door and turned back for a second. "I'm going to go start my homework, so have fun... all that jazz, yeah. But I'd do something about that hair. It's a mess and Brian's gonna be here in like ten minutes."
I gasped and hurriedly began brushing my hair, praying that it wouldn't decide to go frizzy on me.
About five minutes later, my mom walked into my room. "You look beautiful." she smiled. "Your father would be so proud."
"Mom.." I said turning away from the mirror. "It's just a date."
She nodded. "You're still just as beautiful."
I blinked the tears out of my eyes. "Thanks mom."
"Have fun tonight, but be careful." she warned.
