Poison Kiss
Chapter 10:
Ashlynn's POV:
"What are you doing here?!" I hissed, looking Nico up and down. "Just because you found me lying on the sidewalk does not mean that we are automatically friends."
Hurt flashed across his face and I almost felt bad for being so harsh. He quickly recovered his composure and flashed me a shy smile. "Your mother invited me over to keep an eye on you because she was going out." he shrugged. "May I come in or are you just going to stand there gaping at me?"
I quickly closed my mouth and stepped aside, opening the door wider. "I'm really sorry about this, it was my dad and your mom's idea."
I raised an eyebrow as he plopped comfortably down on the couch. "So why are you in charge of watching me?" I asked suspiciously.
"Well," he said, grabbing a bag of chips off of the coffee table. "My dad and your mom have this thing going. They met the night I found you, and I guess that they just.... clicked."
"Nice," I muttered sarcastically. Leave it to mom to put me in an awkward situation.
Nico looked at me expectantly. "So...." he said drawing out the 'O'.
"What?!" I snapped irritably. Hey don't blame me for being upset. My entire peaceful evening had been crashed by an almost complete stranger. "Am I boring you? If you want to go, the door is right there."
He shook his head vigorously. "No, I'm cool. I just thought you might want to watch a movie or something."
"Whatever..." I shrugged my shoulders and gestured to a stack of DVDs in the corner. "Pick whatever you want."
He got up and shuffled through a few of them before turning to me, a frown creasing his forehead. "Chick flicks, cartoons, and horror?" he questioned. "Really?"
I nodded. "Problem?" I asked, giving him a dirty look.
"Don't you have any action movies?" I shook my head. "Any Sci-Fi?" I joined him on the floor next to my collection of movies. "Look, if you're not happy with my taste in entertainment, I'm going to pick something."
He stepped back. "Be my guest. How bad could it possibly be."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nico was still complaining 4 hours later when my mother arrived home with his father.
"Time to go home, Nico." Mr. Watson called for his son from the hallway.
Nico leaped from the couch and had dashed out the door as soon as his father had opened his mouth. "What did you do to him, honey?" my mom asked me suspiciously. "Please tell me that it had nothing to do with makeup."
I shook my head. "No mom. I only made him watch all the Cinderella movies with me." I playfully pouted. "I don't see what the big deal was. He just claimed that it degraded his manliness. And then he got mad when I had no idea what manliness he was referring to."
My mother rolled her eyes. "Whatever. I'm just glad that you didn't kill each other."
I shrugged. "I don't know him that well yet. Give me a couple of weeks."
My mother nodded slowly before turning and walking into her room. I yawned loudly, reminding myself that I was exhausted. I slowly made my way into my room and gracelessly plopped down on my bed. I had only been lying down for a few moments when my phone buzzed at me, revealing a new text message.
I reached over and picked up my phone. "You have one new message!" the screen blinked at me. I accepted the message and quickly scanned my eyes over the pixelated words on the screen:
Vincent: Hey. I'm bored and I was just wondering what you were doing.
I frowned. He certainly had a creepy way of starting conversations. I quickly texted him back.
Ashlynn: I'm not doing anything, why?
Just as soon as I had sent the message and had started to put my phone down, it vibrated again, this time signaling a call.
I checked the number. It was Vincent, of course. "Hello." I said after answering.
"Hi." he said in his deep and somehow sweet voice.
"So what did you want?" I asked, trying to sound as friendly as possible without giving away the fact that I was slightly miffed at being called so late.
"Well I'm kind of lonely, and I wanted to know if you wanted to hang out. That day that you were with Hayley, you said we could hang out some time." he said quickly.
"I don't know where you live, and besides its late." I replied with a yawn.
"I'll come get you." he said eagerly. "Please?"
I frowned. "I barely know you. How can I be sure that you aren't going to murder me and leave my body in the woods." I said cautiously.
"I won't." he promised, sounding desperate.
"Fine." I mumbled slowly. I was probably going to regret this later.
"Great!" he said cheerfully. "Be there in ten. Bye!"
Wait ten.. Ten minutes?! I opened my mouth to reply, but he had already hung up.
Great, now I had plans to hang out with an almost complete stranger and only ten minutes to get ready. I needed to devise I plan to sneak out, and fast. How did I get myself into these situations?"

Thanks for reading. I know this book needs work. At some point I'm going to go back and edit. I've also started to write a new book, which won't be uploaded until I'm just about done with this one. So far it looks like it will turn out better than my previous works. I'm sorry if this chapter looked awkward and forced. It was. I knew that I needed to upload, so I did. Please forgive me for my short and sloppy work(not that you need to, I know it's terrible), but I am trying to improve.
