It had been a rough few weeks to say the least.

Nobody seems to believe Harry didn't put his name in, and everyone except Gryffindor seems to hate him.

"Brinley, what are you doing?" Zacharias, one of my housemates, asks me as I sit with Hermione and Harry (Ron is no longer speaking to him).

"Erm... sitting with my friends?"

"You shouldn't be in Hufflepuff, what happened to loyalty to your house?"

"What happened to loyalty to Hogwarts? What happened to being fair and just at all times? Or do only some of our values apply to you? It's not your place to judge, or get involved, so beat it will you?"

I'd dealt with a lot of cold-shouldering from my house recently. Even Valerie won't talk to me, and Hannah and Susan are acting... differently.

"Thanks Brinley..." Harry mutters.

"Don't worry about it. They're acting like idiots. I know you didn't put your name in."

He smiles appreciatevly, before going back to his meal. He doesn't notice Hermione and I holding hands under the table.

Halfway through, we excuse ourselves and head to the Black Lake. Checking nobody is around and we're out of sight from the Durmstrang ship, we lay next to each other and look up at the sky.

"I keep telling them I'm not an owl! But they keep using me to communicate because they're both too stubborn to apologize!" She sighs in frustration.

"I think... they're both going through a hard time. Ron's always been in Harry's shadow, his brother's before that, and he is once again. I think it's easier for him to blame Harry than face up to that. But that's not Harry's fault, and he's sorta lost his best friend at a time he really could do with one. Neither of them can apologize cos neither of them are really in the wrong. Ron's used to pushing his feelings aside and Harry's used to him doing that. Maybe some time apart is what they need." I explain softly, lacing my fingers with hers. She smiles.

"You're right."

The smile drops from her face slightly as she looks at me with a sigh.

"I don't want to be that person. But what are we? Are we... together?"

"We're together if you want to be."

"I do. Want to be together, I mean. Should we... tell people?"

"Unfortunately it's a bit different for us love. I think we should tell people we both trust."

"You can tell the twins about us, if you want."

"Are you sure?"

"I am."

I smile, leaning my forehead against hers.

"You can tell Harry and Ron. And Ginny. I trust anyone you do."

She hums in agreement, kissing me gently before we have to return to the school for classes.

Excusing myself from Charms under the pretense of a headache, I hang around the courtyard, waiting for Fred and George. I know they have a free period and I'm pretty sure this is where they'll spend it.

"Boo!"

I yelp and jump forward, spinning around with my wand out to see the twins crying with laughter.

"Not funny! I'm jumpy." I grumble, pocketing my wand as we head to the Gryffindor common room.

"Balderdash." Fred says, to which the Fat Lady swings open.
