Christmas Day

I wake with a start on Christmas morning, a loud crash pulling me from sleep as I see Hannah with her mouth open in shock, looking down at her present. She notices everyone waking.

"S- sorry guys, someone sent me a trick present, blew up in my face," she checks for a tag, "From... Allison, think this was meant for you, it's got your sister's name on it."

Groaning, Allison got up and took the parcel.

"I'm gonna kill her."

"Well wait for tomorrow, don't commit a murder on Christmas Day." I point out, reaching for the presents at the bottom of my bed.

Sorting the gifts into seperate piles, I check the tags. One from Fred and George, one from my brother, one from Hermione, one from Ginny, two from Mrs Weasley, one each from the girls in my dorm, and lastly one from my parents.

Then, I double check the last tag, and my heart sinks into my stomach, which then drops to my feet. Parent. Usually, my Dad does a scribbled kind of marking from him on my tags, but this year, just my Mum.

I sigh, brushing it off and fixing a smile back onto my face before anyone notices.

Opening the twins messily wrapped present, I carefully pull out a beautiful dress I'd pointed out at Hogsmeade a few weeks ago, and a small stuffed dragon. Smiling, I fold it at the bottom of my bed and reach for my brothers, a medium sized box of assorted Honeydukes products.

After sharing a few around, and eating some myself, I unwrap a dark yellow jumper with a large badger and a box of mince pies from Mrs Weasley, and a book depicting a variety of Quidditch techniques from Ginny.

Still smiling, I reach for Hermione's gift, a dark, velvet covered book under the paper. Opening it up, the text is from a random book, but cut out in the middle is a heart. In the heart, there's a clear crystal. However, it instantly flushes into a yellow hue when I pick it up.

Taking another look at the text, I notice the front page talks about the crystal - an emotional chakra. It's linked to another, identical crystal, and it can convey emotions between the two. The crystal turns red when I touch it again, which the book says is 'happiness'.

I can't keep the smile off my face as I gently place the book on my nighstand and place the crystal in front of me.

My Mum sent me a broom care kit, but even the lack of my Dad's involvement doesn't deter my mood.

Without my touching it, the crystal turns red, just as it had been a moment ago when I had it in my palm. I hope that means she liked what I got her.

A few weeks ago, Fred and George were helping me shop for Hermione, because I was completely clueless and somewhat freaking out. I ended up buying her three things.

The first, a very old novel which turned out to be the first ever copy, and upon closer inspection, Hermione's favourite book. I was going to pay fifteen galleons for it, but the twins haggled the price down to seven.

The second, a quick notes quill (not biased like Rita Skeeters). She once mentioned to me that her head was spinning constantly with all the thoughts she had, and she's never fast enough to write them down.

The third, lastly, is the one that caused me the most trouble. Once, Hermione said she sometimes missed quiet, still pictures from the muggle world. I had to talk to every single muggle-born and halfblood in the school (my own Mum didn't know what I was talking about) to find a Polaroid camera. I got the twins to take a picture of us, which they successfully did without her knowing.

"Hey, Brinley, what's that crystal?" Susan asks, pointing at it.

"It has a partner crystal, and they communicate with the emotions of whoever is touching it."
