Kabanata 1
Her world is boring, but it's crazy. And what she meant is, it's literally crazy. Not the kind of crazy that makes people sign petitions to send someone to an insane asylum. It's... It's kind of worse than that she'll be completely honest.
Mari Soleil lives in a divider town called Evermore. In Layman's terms, it's a place that's "magically" located right where two realms meet.
That's what she meant when she said her world is crazy. Good thing she's not, or at least, with all the shitty things that's happening to her and her life, she still considers herself sane like how people expect her to be. So much for how they treat me, hmm? Blah!
Evermore is a divider town. Divider towns serve as portal to the witches who still visit the normal world. You know, after the dark history of their kind and the tragic fate their ancestors had in the hands of ordinary people, who wouldn't want to cross the veil and greet the normal people good morning, right? Like, go ahead, motherfuckers! Get burned alive! At least you'll hit front page this time, all over the fucking world. Great.
"Mari, careful."
She sighed as she heard her spirit guide, Nayi, whisper another warning while she's spinning around a pole, head falling back and eyes staring at the white ceiling of the studio she calls home more than her own house.
"I know," she replied, whispering.
Mari always thought that normal people are selfish. They never liked the idea of having someone who could stand between them and the God they worship. Everyone who becomes above them but less than God, they label as evils already.
That's why she hates the idea of not getting accepted in the House of The Sacred Shadow, an exclusive school in Syphan, the main divider town among the nine towns made my the strongest High Priestess ever existed.
The Lady of Darkness and the banished High Priestess, Tatiana Amore.
Tatiana was a legend because of the many things she had accomplished, but her existence was actually forbidden to be talked about especially inside the special realm.
She doesn't want to be like Tatiana who ended up spending the rest of her life in the normal realm. Para kay Mari ay iyon na ang pinakamasakit na maaaring mangyari sa tulad niya, anuman ang dahilan kung bakit ito pinaalis sa mundong dapat ay pinamumunuan nito.
She thinks what happened to Tatiana was tragic, and Mari had enough drama in her life already to end up like her. That's why she needs the acceptance letter so badly. Because not being a part of the academy means having to stay in the normal world for the rest of her life and spend every single day feeling nothing but the fruit of being an outcast.
It's not that she doesn't have anything special that's why she's worried. It's just that, for someone who has human mother, her chance of getting accepted is pretty much low.
She's a halfblooded Deinery who can command the wind. Her body can be as light as she wanted to, and of course, just like every Deinery, she's accompanied by a spirit guide since the beginning of her awakening as a Deinery.
Ngunit para kay Mari ay hindi iyon sapat. She'd heard a lot of rejected applications. Mostly fall on the elementals category just like her. Hindi ganoon kataas ang tingin sa elementals kumpara sa respetong nabibigay sa cosmic witches at green witches.
In the special realm called Deither, elementals are just, well, supports during wars. Iyong tipong ibinabala sa kanyon at ipinagdarasal na lamang kaagad ang kaluluwa kahit humihinga pa. Hindi niya maintindihan kung bakit kaya lang ay wala na siyang magagawa. That's the rule of Deither. She has no power to question anything, especially when she isn't even sure yet if she'll get in.
