"there has to be something worthwhile in this pointless world."

THE SUN HARDLY ROSE ON THIS RAINY MORNING. Clouds covered the view of the sun and heavy rain poured onto the roof of Evelyn's apartment building.

What a mistake it was to live on the top floor.

It must've been about noon. She could smell a frozen meal now cooked all the way from the living room.

That meant one of two things. It was lunchtime and she had slept in on accident or her roommate had woken up early and there were no breakfast foods.

She reached over to her cell phone and checked her phone.

The time read to be a quarter past eleven. The decision was still unsure.

After a second of stretch, the woman picked herself up out of bed and into her bathroom.

It was Saturday. Evelyn didn't have work or class on Saturdays. She could really just do nothing if she so desired. Even go back to sleep.

But no. She just had to promise a friend that she would go see a movie with them.

Evelyn washed her face, brushed her teeth, and tied back her hair. She walked back into her room only to throw on some appropriate sweatpants and a bra to go under her t-shirt.

She wasn't on that level of comfort with her roommate.

The woman turned the knob and walked out towards the kitchen.

"Good morning, Evelyn." said a dark and familiar voice.

She grunted and waved in response, too tired to choke out any words. Her roommate wasn't particularly bad, but she didn't exactly feel positively about him either.

Evelyn made the mistake of going into his room one time. The stench was so terrifying that she vowed to never return.

But he paid his half of the rent and didn't steal her things. She couldn't exactly complain too much.

The only issue was that Evelyn found herself cleaning the areas they shared about seventy percent of the time. She had yet to confront him about it.

But that was only out of pure laziness.

After pouring some coffee and making buttered toast, Evelyn returned to her room in silence.

She wasn't actually friends with her roommate either. He was kind of just...

There. He was just there.

After quickly eating and checking her emails, Evelyn got dressed to go meet up with her friend.

She left her room with her bag and car keys.

"I'm going to the movies with Pieck. I'll be back later." she said flatly as she approached the door.
