"who the fuck knows anymore, i feel so lost."

PORCO WOKE UP IN PAIN THE FOLLOWING MORNING. The lights were dim and the faint sounds of talking could be heard from the hallway.
When he turned his head to the left, he found Marcel's jacket over the back of the chair. Marcel was not in the room.
He turned to the right to see Evelyn curled up in her own chair, her hoodie in her arms. She looked uncomfortable, and Porco was sure that she would be in pain when she woke up.
"You're awake!" Marcel whisper-yelled as he walked into the room with coffee.
"Yeah, where'd you go?" Porco asked.
"To get coffee, haven't really slept all night." Marcel whispered to Porco as he took a seat.
"You don't have to whisper, she won't wake up." Porco said.
Marcel frowned and looked over at Evelyn.
"She won't?"
"She slept through a fire alarm. Nothing wakes Evelyn up." Porco said.
Marcel shrugged and took a small sip of his coffee. Porco shifted as much as he could, but it hurt him badly to do so.
"Help me scoot over so she can get up here. She's gonna hurt her neck if she stays like that." Porco said.
"Dude, take it easy. You got hit pretty hard." Marcel said.
"Shut up and help." Porco insisted.
After about five minutes, Marcel was finally able to place Evelyn next to Porco. He realized that Porco truly wasn't joking when he said that Evelyn wouldn't wake up.
Marcel sat down and took a deep breath. He looked at his brother only to see Porco looking longingly at his roommate.
Marcel smirked and put his elbows on the armrests.
"You know, she was losing her shit yesterday. Screaming and crying, the works." Marcel said.
Porco frowned and turned to look at his brother.
"You're imagining things. Evelyn doesn't show emotion, she hardly even has them." Porco said.
"I'm not imagining things. She tried to fight the guy who hit you and the nurse had to tell her that they would have to kick her out if she kept making a fuss. She completely broke down after that and just cried in the hallway for an hour. Didn't eat the ice cream I got her either." Marcel explained.
Porco remained silent. He didn't know if he could believe Marcel. There was no way Evelyn would ever do anything like that.
But he always trusted Marcel. His brother didn't just lie to him for the hell of it.
Was that the Evelyn he knew? Did she really react like that?
Porco got to go home that night. He was grateful for many reasons.
He didn't like the hospital. The smell made him uncomfortable, nobody was truly happy, and he hated having people treat him like glass.
Porco was also extremely worried that someone would come into the emergency room all bloodied up. Considering the fact that he could hardly do more than walk, Porco wouldn't be able to help Evelyn at all if she went down.
Because she refused to leave the hospital.
When they returned to their apartment, Marcel was running himself ragged trying to take care of the two.
Even though they didn't exactly need him to do so.
"I'll go grab us some dinner! I can even stay a few days and clean. Let me help around the house!" Marcel said.
Evelyn turned to face the older Galliard and sighed.
"Dude, Marcel, we'll be fine. Go home." Porco said.
Marcel was about an hour and a half away from home. He had quite the drive back, and it was already getting late.
"Are you sure?" Marcel asked.
"Yeah, go home. And don't tell Mom about this." Porco said.
Marcel sighed and walked over to the counter.
"Well at least let me lea-"
"No, Marcel. No leaving money. You gotta stop that." Porco said.
Marcel had gotten into the habit of leaving people money whenever he felt guilty, or even for no good reason. Porco swore that his brother would run himself broke.
"Fine! Damn." he said. "Thanks for everything, Evelyn. Call me if you need help or anything." Marcel said.
"Thanks, Marcel. Drive safely. Seriously." Evelyn said.
"Tch." from Porco on the couch.
"I will, bye."
Marcel left and Evelyn locked the door behind him. She sighed and began cooking in the kitchen.
"You know, Marcel said you were losing your shit last night." Porco said.
Evelyn froze up and looked at the wall. She was remembering it all too vividly.
That was the first time she had truly broken down in years. She hated that feeling, the sheer panic, and pain of someone close to her being hurt.
"Yeah? Well at least I didn't get myself kicked out of the hospital." she said as she resumed with taking out ingredients.
"What an accomplishment. I didn't forget, by the way." Porco said.
"Forget what?" Evelyn asked as she took out the kitchen knife.
"You smiled. You actually smiled. Even if you were crying, that was a smile." Porco said with a small smirk.
Evelyn refused to turn around as her face grew hot. She chopped up vegetables and formulated her response.
"Oh. I hardly remember that." she said, clearly lying.
"It was beautiful. Your smile is beautiful."
Peter sat alone in the library with his laptop in front of him. He was working diligently, trying to get things done.
His phone pinged and he rushed to silence it. Once he pushed the silencer button, he read the text message that had popped up on his home screen.
Evelyn:
I'm sorry that lashed out at you. You were trying to be helpful and I was out of line.
Peter smiled as he read the text message. He had been feeling down since she yelled at him.
Peter didn't feel like he deserved those harsh words at all.
Peter:
It's alright. Dinner tomorrow?
Peter stared at the screen for a whole five minutes. He even jumped a little when he noticed that she was typing.
Evelyn:
Actually, I can't this week. Next week, maybe.
Peter grinned and quickly typed a response.
Peter:
Great! Next week!
