"what do i have to gain from being in love with you?"

***

WHEN EVELYN AND PORCO WENT BACK HOME, THEY FOUND NUMEROUS NOTES IN THEIR MAILBOX. Many of which were from the exact same person.

Peter, of course.

Many included coupons to restaurants and some had aggressive messages that could be interpreted as threats.

Porco felt a sense of satisfaction when Evelyn threw away every single thing left by Peter. She was genuinely uninterested.

But he realized that she at some point was going to have to have to confront him. Evelyn knew that Peter was never going to leave her alone if she didn't say something.

"I'm going to tell Peter that we live together and are dating." Evelyn said.

Porco spit out his water and wiped his mouth clean.

"What?" he asked.

"Men respect men, not always women. He's going to back off if I say we're together and if he doesn't, you can just beat his ass." Evelyn turned to him and lightly smirked at Porco, shocking him a bit.

"I know you're just itching to land a hit on him." Evelyn said.

Porco blushed and crossed his arms.

"Well that's not true." he said, clearly lying.

"Yeah? Tell that to all of the bruises I had the day after he stopped by here." Evelyn said.

Porco was taken aback. Who was this girl and what did she do with Evelyn?

"Evelyn!" Porco exclaimed.

"Did I lie?" she asked, staring him dead in his eyes.

Porco sighed in defeat.

"No, I guess not."

Evelyn had arranged to meet Peter at an outdoor picnic area. She sat at the table, waiting for him to arrive.

"Evelyn! Hey! You're back!" he said as he sat himself down.

He set down a large box and opened it. Hot food steamed and he began taking dishes out.

"Peter, I'm not here to eat. I'm here to talk to you." Evelyn said.

"Yeah, I know, so we can talk over an early dinner." Peter said.

"No. Peter, I'm not going to eat." she said.

Peter frowned and shoved the food to the side.

"Okay. Well, can I start? Where were you this weekend? I texted you and you didn't answer, I got worried." he said.

Evelyn sighed.

"Porco and I went back to my hometown to attend my mother's funeral. I didn't feel like answering text messages." she said.

Peter frowned.

"I'm sorry for your loss. May your mom rest in peace. So Porco went with you? Are you feeling okay?" he asked.

There it was. Evelyn figured that he'd fake caring about her mother and jump straight to the fact that Porco traveled with her.

"I'm feeling fine and yes, Porco went with me. That's actually what I'm here to speak to you about." Evelyn said.

"What? What do you mean?" Peter asked.

"I'm here to tell you that Porco and I live together. We're actually in a relationship, Peter. I understand that you've been interested in me, but I just don't return those feelings." she said.

Peter frowned and crossed his arms.

"Are you being forced into this relationship? I never saw him on your Instagram profile, so it doesn't look like you like him that much." Peter said.

Evelyn grimaced in slight disgust. She figured that Peter would just accept her claim.

"We prefer to keep our relationship private. Not everybody needs to know our business." Evelyn said.

"Well, why did you study with me all those times? Staying away from Porco?" he asked.

"Because... we're friends? At least that's what I assumed." she said.

"Oh, come on. We went on a date, Evelyn! You can't just say you weren't interested in me!" Peter said.

"We went to dinner as friends. And yes, I can say I wasn't interested in you." Evelyn said.

"That's bullshit, why are you-"

That was it. That was the last straw. This boy would not stop. At this point, she didn't need to call in Porco who was nearby in case Peter got upset.

She was just going to do it herself.

"No, you're acting like a fucking child! Grow up and learn when somebody is denying you something! I never reciprocated your feelings, Peter! Texting me nonstop? Trying to get my attention when Porco is lying injured in a hospital bed? Blatantly being jealous of Porco to the point where you can't be an actual friend?" Evelyn shouted.

She took a moment to catch her breath.

"I'm fucking sick of it! Whether you like it or not, I'm not interested in you. I never even want to speak with you again! You're an annoying asshole!" she said.

Evelyn stood up and began walking away. She took out her phone and quickly dialed Porco.

"Hey, I'm headed home."

Peter didn't try to follow her or call after her.

Evelyn was absolutely done with Peter.

"Hey are you-"

Porco couldn't finish his sentence before Evelyn grabbed him by his shirt and pressed a heavy kiss to his lips. She then let go of him and pulled away, storming off to her room.

"Well, okay?"
