"why should i care?"

***

BERTHOLDT HOOVER COULD BE BEST DEFINED AS A LITTLE SNITCH. Truth be told, he wasn't snitching at all. There was no secret being kept.

He just told Porco something that he witnessed.

"Good for her." Porco said flatly as he took a large swig of his beer.

"Come on, Man, you don't mean that. You're into her!" Reiner exclaimed.

"That's not true, we're just roommates." Porco said.

"Bullshit. I still don't even know what this chick looks like! Bertholdt, what does she look like?" Reiner asked.

"Well, um, she is very pretty. Dark hair and eyes, she's just a little taller than Annie, and she looked kinda sad last time I saw her." Bertholdt said.

"She's not sad, just empty inside." Porco said casually.

Reiner and Bertholdt stared at him in what could be defined as shocked confusion.

"Okay... does she at least have a nice body?" Reiner asked.

"Watch it." Porco said.

"See! You're into her!" Reiner exclaimed. People from other tables in the bar looked over as Reiner was being a bit too loud.

"No, you're wrong. She just deserves respect and you're being a jackass." Porco said.

Reiner huffed and crossed his arms.

"So it doesn't bother you that she's talking to someone?" Bertholdt asked.

Porco shook his head.

"Nope. She's an adult, she can do what she wants."

Porco's phone buzzed for a second and lit up. He leaned forward to check it.

Evelyn:

Cut fimger, hekp

Porco sighed. He had deduced that she was trying to ask for help after cutting her finger.

"I have to go. She cut her finger." Porco said.

"Can't she just put a band-aid on it?" Reiner asked, clearly dumbfounded.

"She faints at the sight of blood. She probably can't see straight or stand up right now." he said.

"Yeah, yeah, go help your wife, Pock." Reiner teased.

"Quit it."

Porco opened the door to see Evelyn sitting on the floor with her legs curled into her body. Her head was buried into her knees and she looked down.

A pool of blood was gathered under her hand, which she held out away from her.

"Evelyn, oh my god." he said.

"I'm gonna pass out now." she said quietly.

"What?! You haven't passed out yet, don't pass out on me now!" Porco said.

"If I look up I'm gonna pass out, it's inevitable. Almost went down earlier, please fix it." she said.

Porco grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her finger. There was still blood on the floor. He began to wonder if letting her pass out was easier.

"Can you walk?" he asked.

"N-No." she said.

He realized that Evelyn was shaking. Violently. It took him about twenty minutes to get home, and she had cut her finger before he left the bar.

She had been spending a lot of time trying to not pass out since she was home alone. Porco was willing to bet that she was exhausted.

"Okay. Cover your eyes with your good hand." he said quietly.

Evelyn moved her left hand to cover her eyes. Porco scooped her up and tried to move to the sink.

But it was already filled with blood.

He sighed and carried her over to his bathroom. Porco set her down on the counter and started the water on the sink.

"Don't open your eyes yet." he said.

He took her hand and held it under the water.

"Why the hell is it bleeding this much?" he said.

"Don't say stuff like that." she said in a shaky tone.

"Sorry." he said. Porco reached under his sink and grabbed hydrogen peroxide. He poured it over her finger and waited for the bleeding to stop.

"Cut your finger and you're basically a goner. Damn." he said.

"Shut up, don't be mean. I can't control it." she said.

"Yeah, yeah, I know." he said.

The bleeding finally stopped. Porco wrapped some gauze and tape around her finger.

"Okay, the bleeding stopped. Don't open your eyes yet, there's still blood all over the kitchen." he said.

Evelyn nodded as Porco picked her back up. He carried her over to the couch where he set her down.

Evelyn moved her hand and opened her eyes. Porco frowned as he noticed just how much she was still shaking.

"You're not bleeding anymore, Evelyn. You're okay." he said.

"I'm really sorry. You're right, I'm useless after seeing just a little blood." she said shamefully.

"Don't be sorry. I'd rather rush back than come home to see you passed out covered in your own blood." he said.

"Please don't give me the mental image." Evelyn said.

"Right, my bad." he said. Porco took a blanket and laid it over Evelyn.

"Don't look over at the kitchen. I'm gonna have to clean up the mess." Porco said.

"Okay, thanks."

Evelyn had fallen asleep after only five minutes of laying down. She really needed the rest. It took a lot of energy to keep yourself from passing out.

Porco finally finished cleaning up the kitchen, which resulted in him throwing away the cutting board she had been using.

If they were to hold on to it, she would faint every time from seeing the massive stain she left.

"Porco Galliard, saving the day." he said to himself.

He walked over to Evelyn and took the blanket off of her. Porco carefully picked her back up and carried her into her room.

He set her down in her bed and made sure her covers were over her. It was almost seven, so she was probably going to wake up in the middle of the night.

But he figured that sleeping in her own bed would be more comfortable than the couch.

Despite everything that happened, Porco couldn't get one thing off of his mind.

Was Evelyn really seeing someone? And what did the guy mean to her?

Did Evelyn actually have a boyfriend?
