Day 5

Lani's pov:

It was 1pm and Kio woke me up so we could go get some groceries. I was up all night working on some business things. And then after, I called Vinnie so we could talk more. Kio and I got into his car and we went to Whole Foods (I can't afford their shit irl but lemme just do this). We got down and grabbed a shopping cart. "Ah shit! I forgot the bags. We can just buy some, it's fine." Kio groaned, pushing the cart. I checked my phone for my shopping list. "Go grab what you need, I'll just use a basket. Call me when you're done." I walked off but I didn't hear Kio say bye. I turned on my heels and glared. "Are you sure you're going to be fine by yourself?" he asked in concern. I nodded and showed off my mace. He laughed and waved bye.

I walked off, looking around me every so often. I walked into the frozen foods aisle and saw a familiar person. She turned around and smiled at me from under her mask. "Lani? Oh my god, hi!" she squealed and walked over to me. I gave her a little wave since I obviously couldn't hug her (corona bitches). "Lord, how long has it been? You look amazing." I complimented. She sighed happily and shrugged. "I haven't seen you since you and Vinnie's grad party thing! Wow, I know you both hit it big down here. I'm so happy for you two! So did you guys ever get together?" she said, playing with her hair. I laughed, "Yes actually. But it took awhile for it to happen. See, I was dating Chase Hudson since the start of March. Then we broke up and I got with Vinnie. He and I are amazing. How about you? How's school?" I ranted quickly, grabbing some things from a freezer.

"Nora and I are roommates at our college! We both are doing great. And I'm so happy you two got together. Remember when Jaydan asked if you two were dating! Damn that was a good night." she uttered, tapping her nails against the shopping cart. "Wow, the memories from that night are all rushing in.. Anyways, if you ever wanna hang out after the pandemic, just call me. My number is 678-999-8212 (iykyk)! I have to go now. You might run into Kio around here by the way." I waved and left the aisle. I finished grabbing everything I needed and waited for Kio to call me. He didn't have to call me because I saw him across the store, talking to Ava. They finally stopped talking and I waved him over to me. "You saw Ava too? I'm surprised you remember her." I joked subtly.

We bought everything and left the store. As we were putting the bags into the car, we saw Ava wave to us from her car. We waved back and continued putting the bags in. We drove back to the apartment and brought everything upstairs in one trip. We had like eight bags. Kio insisted on carrying more bags than I. So I let him. We were in the apartment, putting the food away when I got a call from Vinnie.

Call with Vinnie:

Me: Hi bubs, I'm putting away the groceries. Can I call you after I'm-

Vinnie: Nope! I love the gift you got me yesterday and today. You're the sweetest, buttercup. Your gift should arrive in like 10 minutes.

Me: I'm glad bubs! Soooo can I get a hint?

Vinnie: Sorry buttercup. No can do!

Me: Aww, well I will call you in like five. Bye bubs. I love you.

Vinnie: Byeee! Love you always.

I smiled and put my phone in my back pocket. Kio gave a disgusted look and rolled his eyes. "Oh shut it!" I scoffed, putting away my food. I finished up and waited on the floor of the living room for my gift. I played some music and danced around the apartment. It's stupid. Yes, I know. But it's fun. Kio walked out of his room and just stood in the hallway. He stared at me like I was crazy but he is too. So he joined me. We danced to I Feel Good About This by The Mowgli's. We heard a knock and I danced to the door. I saw Patty running from my door stupidly. I chuckled and said bye. He turned around slyly and flipped me off. I gasped dramatically and just grabbed the gift.

I closed the door behind me and Kio was still dancing. "What's the gift? Open it, Kehlani!" he yelled, out of breath. He stopped for a minute and walked over to me. The gift was in a black box. I pulled out the tissue paper and a pair of boxing gloves were inside. I gasped and took them out. They were green with my initials and a buttercup engraved in it. I smiled and read the note. "I hope you like this. I love you buttercup." I smiled and put them on. I started punching Kio's side and he ran off. I chuckled and walked around the house with them on. I walked over to the mirror and showed them off. I took them off and went down to the gym with Kio.

Vinnie's pov:

I woke up at 6am to go on a run around the land. I pulled a hoodie over my tank top. I changed into my baby blue shorts and left my room. Kouvr was awake and she asked where I was going. "Just gonna do laps around the area. So did Lani tell you anything about the gifts?" I curiously slipped that in. "No, and even if she did, I wouldn't tell you. Also, check your car." she deadpanned and walked away. I left through the back door and started on my jog. I put in my headphones and Lani's second favorite song played. I Feel Good About This by The Mowgli's is something she thinks relates to us. I mean she isn't wrong. But to me, I always thought we were 18 by Anarbor. I remembered what Kouvr said, so I went back to check. I found a gift taped to my car door.

I chuckled and ripped it off. I squinted my eyes and peeked inside it. I just destroyed the bag and saw my gift. It was a ring set. They were silver and large. One had a skull on it and the other had the letter V on it. I slipped them on and formed my hand into a fist. "Wicked.." I spoke to myself. I took a picture and put it on my story. Just a few more days until I get to see Lani again. I continued onto my jog and ran around for like an hour. I only got like 3 hours of sleep because Lani and I talked most of the night. So I knocked out on one of the beanbags.

I arose to the sound of Patty and Michael running around the living room. They probably delivered Lani's gift. I just can't answer why they were acting.. stupid. I got up from the beanbag and stretched. I took my hoodie off because I started to get hot. Patty and Michael stopped running and walked over to me. "So what was today's gift? TELL US." Michael yelled intensely. I moved my head back because he was right in my face. "Uh just these rings." I showed off my left fist. Patty weirdly tried biting them but I moved away. They were probably high. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a Redbull from the fridge. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and called Lani to tell her I loved the gift. We talked for a few minutes and said she saw Ava at the grocery store.

It's kinda funny how the universe works. I was just having a flashback the other night. And it just so happens that Ava was in it. It amazes me sometimes.
