NOW that the big secret was out to at least one of the new additions of Rick's clan, Allison knew that the word would spread like wildfire. Glenn didn't even look like he could keep a secret for 5 mins and that made the Greene sisters nervous.
Allison looked outside watching Nelly run across the field and Patricia feed chickens to the "sick people." They don't need to eat. Allison thought.
She went out the door to catch Nelly by her reins. "Woah girl." Allison waved her arms in the air and Nelly calmed down immediately. The horses were always calm around Allison. In fact, all of the animals were. She just had that way about her.
Daryl Dixon watched outside his tent at the girl being able to stop Nelly in her tracks without being kicked at or mauled. He grunted wondering how a girl like that was still living. She would die eventually. He thought. She was not very athletic and didn't seem to have much common sense.
Allison took the saddle off Nelly and put her back in her stall giving her a pat on the neck. Hershel walked toward his daughter with a smile, "Glad to see you still know how to catch a horse."
She gave him a soft look and shrugged, "I still know how to do a lot of things. I don't forget. Especially when your dad has drilled them in your head since you were 5."
"You're acting more and more like the girl you used to be ever since this pandemic started." He said making her look up in a little shock. "I missed the old Laureen."
"I didn't change.."
"Yes you did." He pat her shoulder. "You changed ever since you told your mom you wanted to be a biologist. You and I both know that wasn't the truth. My Laureen wouldn't sit back and let people tell her what to do."
Her shoulder lingered with his fatherly touch as he continued. "You and I get into so many arguments because you are the only child of mine that acts the exact same as me. When I look at you Laureen, I see a weak girl.."
She looked down in sadness that he would say that.
"That will become the strongest woman that I'll ever known." He finished. "The way you've begged to help these newcomers and that missing little girl, it reminds me of your mother."
Allison smiled, almost wanting to cry but she couldn't. She hugged her father wrapping her long arms around him. "Thank you." She said into his shoulder. They both knew this wouldn't resolve their future disagreements but she was happy to have relief from when she left for college.
He watched as her eyes started looking toward Beth and Patricia asking to be at the gun practice today. "Go ahead." Hershel said to her. With that, she started fast walking toward Rick and Shane.
