Soft lemon ahead.

—————

The travel all the way back to Konoha was spent in silence. Though it wasn't awkward for Sasuke, it was bothering Sakura. She has been overthinking what Sasuke meant by promising his commitment to her. Commitment for what? They're friends, they're not even in a relationship, what could he possibly commit to her?

Arriving at the gates, they immediately went to the Hokage Tower to report and hand over the Uzumaki scroll. Kakashi told them he'll let the deciphering team handle it before they could notify them and hoping the information it holds could be a key to open Haruno's residence.

Leaving his office, Sakura started walking towards her house when she noticed Sasuke trailing behind her.

"Sasuke-kun? Why are you following me?"

"I'll walk you home." he said bluntly.

That's right, he always walked her home, how could she forget about that? Did she really forget their routines just because they haven't been home for three months?

She mentally face palmed herself and walked silently beside the raven man.

She insisted on making dinner for themselves once they arrived at her place, an action of gratitude from Sakura to Sasuke for one; accompanying her in Kiri and two; for still walking her home.

Placing the food on the table, Sasuke noticed a tomato-based dish and immediately allowed himself to dig in, complimenting her as he swallowed.

Sakura was still awkward and currently hesitating if she should ask what he meant before they left Kiri but she couldn't quite get what words she should use.

"What's wrong?" Sasuke finally broke the silence, noticing how she's been fidgeting in her seat and glancing at him every now and then.

"Nothing." she took a spoonful of her food, unable to find the courage to clarify things between them.

"Something's wrong. Tell me, Sakura." his voice was softer and more gentle now, something Sakura noticed he's been doing since their mission.

"Nothing, really."

"You're a bad liar, you know."

Sakura took a deep breathe, convincing herself that she should ask him now since he already got her cornered.

"Um, what you said back then..."

"Which one?" Sasuke interrupted her.

"Let me finish."

Sasuke was nervous as well but his face didn't show that, it remained completely stoic. He knows Sakura's going to ask what he meant back in Kiri but he himself also couldn't find the right words to answer.

"When y-you promised m-me... uh, the um... c-commitment, um... w-what do y-you mean by that?"

"I don't know. Why haven't you say it again?" Sasuke began being defensive. He couldn't answer her so he supposed he could ask her too.

"Huh? Say what again?" Sakura was now confused, wasn't she the one asking questions and wasn't he the one that told her to tell him already.

"Those words. You haven't said it again."

"What words?"

Sasuke didn't answer her and just locked his gaze at hers. She was visibly confused.

"You don't remember?" he asked her.

"Remember what?"

"I want to hear it from you again."

"What do you— aren't I the one asking the question here?" Sakura grew frustrated at his vagueness.
