I had just got out of school and started to walk home.
"Chi town!" I turned to see my best friend Harlem standing with his arms in the air as if a football coach yelled touchdown
"H town!" I yelled back mocking his gesture. He jogged over to were I was standing.
"So you was just gone leave me today, huh?" He asked as we began to walk.
"I mean, you looked pretty occupied with your girlfriend." I said laughing.
"That female is not my girlfriend and you know that." He said playfully punching me in my stomach as we laughed it off.
"So who's turn is it to jump?" Harlem asked looking at me.
"I don't know, lost count last week." I replied.
"Ok, whoever has something to eat at home, doesn't have to jump." He concluded.
I nodded in agreement."I have Chinese food." He answered.
"My mom made stew last night." I said looking at him.
"Beef?" He questioned.
"Mhm." I nodded.
"Yurp, going to yo crib." He said doing a little dance.
"Well, go by yourself because I want Chinese." I said doing my own little dance.
He stopped dancing and just looked at me with a blank expression."You lucky I have to stop at my house anyway." He said as we rounded the corner and down the street to his house.
He opened the door and took off his shoes. I locked the door and he handed me his backpack, I threw his backpack over mine and looped both my arms through. I grabbed his shoes and jumped on his back when he leaned down.
" Why are we so weird?" He asked laughing his way up the stairs.
"We were born this way, we were born this way." I sang out as we reached the top of the stairs then around the corner, to his bedroom.
He put me down by the closet were I took off my shoes and put them in the top of the closet next to his. I sat in his computer chair as he lay stretched out across his bed. I picked up a magazine off his computer desk and opened it.
"You know that's going to be me on the cover of that magazine one day, right." He said playing with something underneath his pillow.
"Yeah, I know. Right next to me." I said smiling.
"Whatever you say Chi." He said pulling out a long black string with a key attached.
I watched him walk down stairs because I started to stare into space towards the doorway. Harlem sometimes act kind of, off you know. Like he doesn't like to be in crowded areas for too long. He always leaves to go some where at night. I never questioned him though. When he tells me he has to go i just say my goodbye because I know he'll text me the whole time he's gone. It's crazy how close we are because honestly I just met Harlem this school year. It started when I was sitting at a lunch table by myself and he walks up and starts a conversation with, "Hi, my name is..." We're not a couple or anything like that, best friends. I put the magazine down and grabbed the blue house shoes from under the desk. I walked down stairs to the kitchen and started to make me some Chinese food.
"Fat ass always eating shit." Harlem creeped out of no where and scared the hell out of me.
"WHY THE FUCK YOU CREEPING WITH THAT DEEP ASS VOICE!" I yelled at Him.
"DONT YELL AT ME!" He said.
"Well stop sneaking and I wouldn't have a reason to." I said taking my food out of the microwave.
