I woke to my whole family singing happy birthday completely out of tune. Sian threw a long rectangular present on me, and I mumbled a thanks. I ripped the 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' wrapping paper to reveal a box of paints and brushes I've been looking for ages but mum said they were too expensive. I jumped up and hugged both my parents and then Sian, who looked extremely unimpression with my show of apreciation.

"Thank you thank you thank you!" I repeated, while examining the new colours.

These were the kind of paints real artists paint with, and the paint brushes alone cost hundreds of pounds. I just can't believe that my mum was so relaxed about spending this much! Mum was beaming down at me, obviously proud of what she invested in.

"There is another present in the kitchen, but get dressed before we give it to you," mum said, before slipping out the door with Sian and dad.

I checked my phone and seen a few texts on my phone.

Alex: Happy Birthday guuurl! x

Paige: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAFFA CAKE BABY BOO! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I giggled at Paige's text and read the rest from another couple of friends. I slipped into a black dress I haven't wore in years and skin toned tights. I pulled my hair into a high ponytail and brushed my fringe straight. I actually looked pretty; maybe sixteen has gained me better looks.

I exited my bedroom and entered the kitchen where all my family were. I eyed them suspiciously, before releasing what the surprise was. Sitting on the counter in the corner, sipping on freshly made coffee was Martha.

"Oh my God!" I screamed, embracing her.

"Hey chick, you didn't actually think I'd miss your birthday?" she said, hugging me tightly.

"You missed mine," Sian commented, but we both ignored her.

My sister was here, in my arms. If sixteen was this good, it's going to be one hell of a year. I pulled away and examined Martha. She got her hair highlighted and was wearing a necklace I've never seen before, but apart from that, she was the same old Martha.

"You look amazing. Ready for my present?" she said, wiggling her eyebrows.

I smiled, shrugging. Her being here was a good enough present for me but Martha knew me inside out so I was excited for her present. She pulled an envelope from behind her back and placed it in my hands. I slipped my finger under the entrance and pulled out two tickets to a Black Nails concert.

I plastered a smile across my face, although it wasn't genuine. I would feel like I'm betraying Jessie, but I know Paige would die to meet Katie. I thanked Martha again with a hug and grabbed a cup of coffee like the rest of my family.

"...yeah Italy was great. Andrea's family are so sweet but could barely speak English. Anyways, what's been going on in your life. It feels like forever since we last spoke," Martha said, grabbing a handful of popcorn.

"I've made friends with the boy upstairs. He is called Jessie. He is really sweet, we've been together like every day since last week. You'd love him," I gushed.

Martha was wiggling her eyebrows while taking the empty bowl which used to be filled with popcorn to the kitchen. I was absentmindedly staring at the door when I heard a tap at the window. I pulled my window up to an empty fire escape, although something caught my attention.

I slid out the window and grasped the first glittery balloon, attached to a tub of Nutella to weigh it down. I followed the balloons, each different colours but still tied down with Nutella, to Jessie's window.

Inside it was dark because of Jessie's newly painted walls we painted black on Thursday, but was lit up by all the scented candles. I smelted bubblegum, cherry, Christmas Eve and various other scents. On Jessie's bed, there was a small brown paper bag and a boy grinning like he won the lottery.

I was overwhelmed with the Nutella balloons and scented candles. I can't believe he remembered last week when I said I loved Nutella and candles. For some reason, my eyes became watery and tears gushed from my eyes.

Jessie got up and pulled me close. Cooing at me and stroking my hair. It was happy tears, because honestly this day couldn't get any better.

"Hey, hey, stop your crying. I haven't even shown you what's in the bag yet," he said, dragging me from the window to the bed. He lifted the bag and replaced me in it's spot. I curiously looked at him with big, expectant eyes.

He pulled out a small, blue box and placed it in my hand. I pulled the lid off to reveal a set of sterling silver feather earrings with a matching dream catcher necklace. I've never wore sterling silver before.

I was afraid I'd break down in tears again. This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever got me. I jumped up and embraced Jessie, crushing the gap between us.

"Delilah, there is still one more thing I have to give you!" Jessie said between laughs. I let Jessie go, a took a step back, looking into his beautiful eyes.

He pulled out a mixed CD titled 'Delilah's Epic Mix'. I giggled before reading the songs which were epic enough to make it on to my mix. The very first song was the Plain White T's- of course. I smiled looking down the list, then back into those majestic blue eyes. This was the moment. Jessie was coming closer to me and I was leaning up to his lips. My eyes began to close, like in the movies. This was the perfect moment, the perfect memory.

"Jessie have you seen- oh hello, I'm- wait, did I just interrupt something, Jess?"

An extremely attractive and shirtless man who looked remarkably like Jessie asked. He has Jessie's sharp jaw and the same shade of brown hair as Jessie. To my disappointment he didn't have Jessie's striking eyes but instead ordinary brown eyes.

"Yes you did. Chad this is Delilah my girlfriend- no I mean my friend who is a girl. Not my girlfriend. Delilah this is my brother Chad. And Chad if you referring to your shirt it is behind the sofa I think."

"It was nice meeting you Delilah, Jessie's friend who is a girl. I really don't intend to be rude but Jessie and I have to go meet our parents. You can come around later if you want but we have to go now. It really was nice meeting you," Chad said before exiting.

"I guess I better go, thank you so much for all of this, I really appreciate it," I said while putting everything back into the brown paper bag, avoiding eye contact with Jessie.

I made my escape through the window and skipped past all the balloons but before I could make it safely back in my bedroom and try and forget that very awkward memory, Jessie called me from above. I looked up at him, my cheeks feeling like they were on fire.

"What about your candles? And balloons?" Jessie asked.

He looked like a lost puppy and I had his lead. I placed the bag safely in my room before relucantly climbing the stairs to retrieve the candles Jessie was blowing out. He placed the lids back on and put them in my arms. And there it was. The awkward silence. I held my breath and waited for Jessie to break it, because to hell if I was.

"I'll text you later?" Jessie asked. I nodded in response and gave him a tight-lipped smile. Jessie leaned in and for some unknown reason, my head turned to the side just as his lips crashed into my cheek.

Jessie's mouth was shaped like an 'o' and I took that as my chance to leave. I walked out of his room then back to the fire escape then back to my room. WHY DELILAH, WHY? A hot guy, who actually likes you tried to kiss you, and you turned your stupid head. Go back to that fire escape and jump off.

After checking that Jessie's window was shut, I went back to the fire escape and screamed.
