Hawkins' Pov

Three Years Ago...

As Doflamingo entered my chambers I didn't bother to turn my focus to him as I continued to draw cards from the stack in my hand. "Hawkins, did you want to join us? We're all heading to the Festival of Lights together and we have an extra seat if you're interested" That caused me to grow curious since that festival was for Humans. 

"Why are you going to a Human Festive Doflamingo? There will be Hunter's present and you don't exactly bend in" I had no intentions of going to such an event but as the next card was laid my decision was shifted. "Who will be attending this Festival?"

"Fufufu. It's just me, Law, Kidd, Kataruki, and you. I didn't think you would agree so easily, what changed your mind?" After I had picked up my tarot cards I started for the doors as Doflamingo ran to keep my pace. "Wait up Hawkins!" Doflamingo was always such a childish man but I was forced to tolerate his behavior due to his status as Warlord. Only seven in the complex had that title though they each deserved it.

"So, you managed to convince the Scarecrow to come with us!? Shit, I didn't think he'd actually agree to it! Hurry up you two I want to feast on some Humans later tonight and at this rate, all the drunk ones will be sobered up!" I didn't see why Eustass felt the need to feast upon drunk Humans as often as he did. Sure, it was one of the only ways a Vampire could feel the effects of alcohol but it still seemed foolish.

"Alright Gentlemen get in the car so we can hurry this along~

A Few Hours Later...

I had lost track of the other Vampires some time ago though I had seen glimpses of them each following around a different Human girl. "Excuse me I couldn't help but notice your tarot cards. Are you a fortune teller or something?" As my eyes lowered, they meant those of a Human who was eating a crimson red candy apple.

At first, I didn't reply since many people were never interested in the fates or in the tarot cards, I possessed but something seemed different with this girl though I couldn't figure out what it was. "Can you please give me a reading if you have the time? I love this kind of stuff but unfortunately, I never used tarot cards myself before. I'm Hope"

When the girl held her hand out towards me, I took it within my own before I introduced myself and placed a single kiss on the back of her hand. "Basil Hawkins. Shall we find a table so I can give you a proper reading?" As we walked towards the edge of the Festival grounds, I found an empty table that would work nicely.

"So, Hawkins what brings you to the Festival of Lights? I'm here with my friends but I haven't seen them for a while I think they all ditched me... Well, I caught a glimpse of Yuki earlier though she was busy locking lips with some red-haired guy behind the paper lantern stand" Hm, there weren't many Human's here that had red hair but Eustass often engaged in sexual acts with his victims before he stole every drop of blood they possessed.

"I arrived with a small group of men though they have each found a Human to follow around. Are you enjoying the Festival, Hope?" The young girl across the table had given me an odd look at my choice of words but if they bothered her Hope didn't voice her opinion. "Not really Hawkins I've spent most of it alone. How about you is this Festival what you expected it would be?"

"Trustfully I only came here because my tarot cards predicted good fortune would occur if I did. Select three cards from the deck then we may begin" As the girl took the time to select her cards my eyes shifted to the man that was staring directly at us. I knew who he was though it was only a matter of time before he informed the others about my presence. "I want these three card Hawkins"

That Hunter had morals and won't act when a Human was in direct danger but that didn't mean he'd stay put for long. "Alright Hope... The Fool often it symbolizes a new beginning or innocence though in this case, I believe it means both... My apologizes Hope but I need to leave it isn't safe here anymore"

"Wait don't go, Hawkins!" The moment she grabbed my hand The White Hunter had made his move though I was faster than he. "H-Hawkins how did you do that!?" I didn't intend to bring the girl with me but I couldn't risk the Hunter catching me off guard without at least having a plan in place. "Try to stay quiet Hope. You'll attract more Hunters if you continue to speak"

"What are you talking about Hawkins?"

"I'm a Vampire, Hope and those Hunter will try to end my existence if I remain here" The girl might have been in shock but her hand still remained tightly held within my own though I didn't want to let her go. "Y-You're just going to leave me, Hawkins? I-I'm in the middle of the woods and you're planning on abandoning me, I don't think so. Take me back to the Festival grounds right now"

"Are you not afraid of me Hope? I could kill you with a single movement but yet your heartbeat remains the same" Before I could further inquire about the girl's lack of fear towards me, she held up a single tarot card though it was a card that I've never drawn before. "The ten of cups card I don't know a lot about reading cards but this one is the powerful love card in the deck. It only appears when two people destined for love are close to each other and I don't see anyone else around but you"

"You are correct about the card Hope... Come on I'll take you back to the Festival gr- Hope your bleeding" I hadn't noticed her injury before but once I realized it the scent of her blood became intoxicating. My fangs were already out though I didn't want to bite the girl encase it scared her away. "A-Are you hungry Hawkins? You can have a little of my blood but just don't take too much"

I took only what I needed from the girl though it still left her exhausted to the point where I had to carry her back to the Festival grounds. "The Hunters are surrounding the Festival as we speak Hope some of them are Vampires as well but they chose to fight against their kind. It's too much of a risk to remain here any longer. I'll find you later when it's safe and to ensure you that I'm going to keep my word please accept my tarot cards"

"Won't you need them, Hawkins?" As I shook my head at the girl, I placed her down on a table before handing over my tarot cards. They were my prized possession but I knew I'd get them back from her once we reunited. "Goodbye Hawkins. I'll wait for you I promise" Since I was still standing in front of her Hope grabbed my shirt before she pulled me into a kiss though it didn't last long as someone pulled me away.

"Move your ass, Hawkins!"

Present Day...

"So, these tarot cards belong to you then?" As my focus returned to Hope I seen that she was holding out the cards I had given to her so many years ago though I didn't need them anymore. "Please keep them, Hope. I replaced my deck a few days after realizing that your memories were gone"

When the cards were placed back into her pocket Hope look up at me as she started to speak. "Now what Hawkins? Oh, and were those other men at the Festival as well that night?" Hope wasn't screaming or insulting me anymore so maybe the girl had accepted that my events from that night were true. "Yes, they each have their own story to tell about that night. Would you like my cloak Hope your body temperature is below average for Humans"

"Sure, I am a little cold but Hawkins why were all our memories wiped I understand that these Hunters didn't want anything getting out to the public but wasn't it risky for them?" As my cloak draped around her slightly shaking form my eyes locked on the three castles that rested a few miles ahead of us. "Don't worry too much about it Hope... Take a look just across the valley that castle will be your new home from now on"
