The next two matches of January were going to be less eventful. On the 16th we played Bolivia followed by a bye week on the 23rd. Then on the 30th, we will play against Peru.
The Bolivia game came and went rather plainly, we won - obviously, but it wasn't nearly as exciting as the game against Finland. Their seeker was much slower than we had expected and their chasers, while they put up a fight, couldn't keep up with us. The game finished after 27 minutes with a win for Ireland at 250 - 80.
This bye week, we spent training mostly in the air. Camish dedicated a large amount of time during our morning conditioning sessions to flight training. This Friday, the 23rd, they announced the semifinalist pairings for the match before the finalists for the cup. Only two more matches to go before the world cup, and every day it felt closer and closer, which for some odd reason was slightly terrifying.
We were likely picks, yet the entire team seemed on edge this week. After our next game on the 30th, if picked, we'd advance into the semi-finals. If we won, two bye weeks would follow, then finals. If we win the finals? We have three weeks to prepare for the cup and if we win the cup? We've won the world.
It was... a lot of pressure. And I'd be lying if I said the attention and the buzz were horrifying. Everyone was looking at us constantly, what we did, what we planned on doing. Columnists would try to scope out strategies, ask about our personal lives to try to get an in into our heads.
Just this morning, I was papped on the way to practice. I guess one of them had seen the ring and he of course began asking a billion questions - questions I already thought they knew the answer to.
"Who's the guy?"
"When's the wedding?"
"Is it a shotgun wedding?"
"Potter, are you rushing into things because of a pregnancy?"
"Would a pregnancy disqualify Ireland from the World Cup?"
"No! I'm not pregnant. No, I'm not rushing into things. It's Scorpius Malfoy, we've been together for 6 years. And I have no bloody clue when the wedding will be but you lot certainly won't be invited!" I shouted at the lot of paparazzi who were now standing at the base of the steps to the stadium entrance. I sighed and shook my head clear of the fog that had gathered before running up into the stadium as fast as I could.
God, they were annoying.
The next day, Wednesday, I was greeted by a rolled-up magazine hitting my arm after my post-practice shower.
"The hell is this?" I asked taking the rolled-up magazine from Matthew's grip.
He chuckled, "the paps doing what they do best," he said.
I unrolled the magazine and looked down at the cover. There was a large photo of Scorpius and I kissing on the cover, me still in my jersey, along with the title "Potter Goes Crazy: Boy Crazy".
