Hello everyone! Welcome to a small special chapter where I'm going to be explaining the workings of Aura Sight! I realized it's never clearly explained in the story, and I don't feel like explaining it (cause the other's weird sense things aren't) so here it is all laid out! Enjoy.
Origins
To begin, aura sight is an ability passed down through Y/n's mother's side. It was considered a blessing by her ancestors and used for spiritual practices. Thus, it is strongly connected with spirituality and considered a divine gift. Though Y/n and her mother use it for more practical purposes.
Aura States
There are two different states that an aura can be in (which you've probably vaguely seen before); a Resting Aura and an Active Aura.
A Resting aura is, as it says, a person's aura when they are resting or dormant. In particular, when no emotion is strong enough to appear before a Resting Aura. Resting auras are typically more personality-based rather than emotional, and mean different things. They aren't permanent, but if they change it's slow and occurs over time as someone matures and changes.
An Active Aura is emotion-based and temporary to a time or period. It must overpower a resting aura; meaning minor emotions don't show through and can't be seen (unless the user is skilled and focused).
Different colors mean different things during resting and active aura times. Yellow is a happy and joyful (at times) active aura, but a resting yellow aura oftentimes represented cowardice. It depends on the time.
Shapes and Sizes
Auras come in a vast and wide variety of shapes and sizes. They're like snowflakes; no two are exactly the same. They may be similar, but they are constantly fluctuating and moving so they're all different.
Throughout time, they may also change. A child's aura is likely to be warm and cheerful while a more mature individual might be calm and cool. They slowly shift as someone's personality is shaped and changes.
Demons have auras but they lack color since their former personality from being human is gone. She can only sense extremely strong emotions at times. But, based on how an aura moves and shifts, she can see malicious intent and if a demon lies. (Only the best liars can get past her aura sense.)
The exception to this demon rule is one's like Nezuko, Yashiro, and Tamayo. The reason isn't yet known (at least to the readers) but their auras are primarily grey with a hint of color towards the core. Consider it a representation of their humanity still lingering despite being demons.
"Taisho secret!" Tanjiro exclaimed, popping up with a smile before cupping his hand around his mouth and leaning toward you. As if gossiping.
He softly spoke, "Supposedly, Y/n's favorite aura colors are orange and blue!"
There was a noise of confusion and both you and Tanjiro glanced over to spot Y/n with her brow furrowed and arms crossed over her chest. Her gentle voice questioned, "where did you hear that from?"
Tanjiro sheepishly smiled.
